Fareed Mahfooz Kidwai (born 18 July 1944) is an Indian politician and a member of 18th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh representing Ram Nagar since March 2022. [1] [2] He is a member of the Samajwadi Party. [1] Kidwai had previously represented Masauli as a member of Bahujan Samaj Party in the 15th, and Kursi in the 16th Uttar Pradesh Assembly as a Samajwadi Party candidate. [3] [4]

Personal life

Kidwai was born to Mahfooz Ahmad in Masauli village of Barabanki district on 18 July 1944. He completed his Master of Science in biology from Aligarh Muslim University in 1966. He married Salma Kidwai on 15 January 1977, with whom he has two sons. Kidwai hails from Zaidpur town of Uttar Pradesh and is an agriculturalist by profession. [1] [5]

Political career

As a member of Bahujan Samaj Party, Kidwai was elected as the Member of Legislative Assembly from Masauli constituency in the 2007 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, after he defeated IJP's Rakesh Kumar Verma by 5,364 votes. [6] [7] However, in 2011, before completion of the five-year term, Kidwai left Bahujan Samaj Party to rejoin Samajwadi Party. [3]

Representing Kursi constituency in the 2012 election, Kidwai was able to defeat Bahujan Samaj Party's Kumari Meeta Gautam by a margin of 23,937 votes. [4] [8] But in the 2017 election, an incumbent Kidwai lost to Bharatiya Janta Party candidate Sakendra Pratap Verma by margin of 28,679 votes. [4]

In the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, Kidwai, representing Samajwadi Party as a candidate from Ram Nagar constituency, went on to defeat Bharatiya Janata Party's incumbent MLA Sharad Kumar Awasthi by a small margin of 261 votes. [9] [2] [10]

Sharad Kumar Awasthi is an Indian politician and a former MLA from Ram Nagar in the 17th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh.

Shakir Ali was an Indian politician and cabinet minister in the Uttar Pradesh government. He served as the MLA from Pathardeva in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly after being elected in the 2012 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election as a Samajwadi Party candidate.

Narayan Das Ahirwar is an Indian politician from the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Lok Sabha Member of Parliament representing Jalaun. He also served as minister in the Uttar Pradesh Government from 2007 to 2011. Ahirwar had started politics in 1982 inspired by Kanshi Ram and joined DSSSS. He was a founding member of the Bahujan Samaj Party and served in many organisational roles of the party. He became dissatisfied with the party policy after 2014, stopped taking major responsibilities and later started aligning with SP, helped strengthen it and officially joined the party in 2022. He contested as the SP and INDIA alliance candidate from Jalaun (SC) in the 2024 general election and was elected.

Ramesh Gautam or Ramesh Chandra is an Indian politician from the Samajwadi Party. He was a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly between 2007 and 2012, elected from Dixir (SC).
