Felix Andrew Odell White (born 28 September 1984) is a British musician, best known as the guitarist of the British indie rock band The Maccabees and 86TVs. He is also co-presenter on the cricket podcast Tailenders alongside Greg James, James Anderson and Matt Horan.

Biography

Early life

White was born in Wandsworth, London, England. [1] [2] His mother, Lana White, was an editor in the publishing industry, and his father was involved in urban design. [3] His mother suffered from multiple sclerosis and died in 2002, when White was 17. [4] He was educated at Alleyn's School and studied Sociology at the University of Sussex. [5] [6] [7] White has two younger brothers - Hugo and Will. His mother and grandmother were Palestinian. [8] White is a lifelong supporter of Fulham F.C., [9] and also follows St Mirren F.C. [10]

2004-2017: The Maccabees

White was a founding member of the British indie rock band The Maccabees. He played the guitar, piano, and provided backing vocals. The band announced that they decided to disband in August 2016. [11]

Post-Maccabees career

On 5 August 2016, along with Morad Khokar, White launched Yala! Records, at Bermondsey Social Club. The label aims to provide both a step up and a network of support for upcoming bands. [12] [13]

On 15 November 2017, White along with Greg James and Jimmy Anderson, began hosting a cricketing podcast Tailenders . This was initially a weekly podcast covering the 2017–18 Ashes series; since 23 May 2018 it was renewed to continue on a weekly basis. [14]

He wrote the memoir, on cricket, music, and loss, It's Always Summer Somewhere. [15] It was abridged and broadcast on BBC Radio 4, narrated by White, in January 2022. [16]

On August 17, 2023, Felix and Hugo White unveiled their first single, "Worn Out Buildings," as part of their new musical project, 86TVs. Band members included their younger brother, Will, and the talented drummer Jamie Morrison, known for his previous work with the bands Noisettes and Stereophonics. [17]

The 2014–15 season was Fulham's 117th professional season and first in the Championship under its current name and the first in the division since 2001. Marks to Prove It is the fourth and final studio album released by the English band The Maccabees released on 31 July 2015 through Fiction Records. Upon release, it reached number one in the UK Album chart. In North America a digital version was made available through Communion Records with a physical release to follow at a later date.

<i>C86</i> 1986 compilation album by various artists

C86 is a cassette compilation released by the British music magazine NME in 1986, featuring new bands licensed from British independent record labels of the time. As a term, C86 quickly evolved into shorthand for a guitar-based music genre characterized by jangling guitars and melodic power pop song structures, although other musical styles were represented on the tape. In its time, it became a pejorative term for its associations with so-called "shambling" and underachievement. The C86 scene is now recognized as a pivotal moment for independent music in the UK, as was recognized in the subtitle of the compilation's 2006 CD issue: CD86: 48 Tracks from the Birth of Indie Pop. 2014 saw the original compilation reissued in a 3CD expanded edition from Cherry Red Records; the 2014 box-set came with an 11,500-word book of sleevenotes by one of the tape's original curators, former NME journalist Neil Taylor.

Tailenders is a podcast and sometime BBC radio show which is nominally centered around the world of cricket. The show is presented by BBC Radio 1 DJ Greg James with ex-Maccabees guitarist Felix White and England international cricketer James Anderson. After its hundredth episode Esquire magazine called it “a phenomenon”, and it has also been labelled “one of the most successful in the country”, and “funny and entertaining” by The Guardian. It has been named in the podcasts of the week by The Week, and The Radio Times, as well as recommended in the i, and Time Out. The Times included Tailenders in their ‘25 best podcasts of 2022’.

Andrew Harrison is an English music journalist who has worked as a staff writer for NME, Select, Mixmag, The Word, and Q, and freelance for Rolling Stone, The Face, The Guardian, The Observer and Mojo. In 2008 he coined the term landfill indie, which VICE described as referring to the "procession of homogenous [guitar] bands" that dominated the UK charts in the early-2000s.
