He was the triple jump gold medallist at the 2011 Asian Athletics Championships and was runner-up at the 2010 Asian Games. Ektov has also won medals at the Asian Indoor Games and Asian Indoor Athletics Championships. His personal best for the event was 17.07 metres, set in 2008, improved to 17.22, set in 2012. He is married to Irina Ektova.

Mohammad Mutlak Khalif Al-Azemi is a Kuwaiti middle distance runner who specialises in the 800 metres. His 800 m personal bests of 1:44.13 minutes outdoors and 1:48.93 minutes indoors are the Kuwaiti records for the event. He represented his nation at the Olympic Games in 2004, 2008 and 2012, and has also made four appearances at the World Championships in Athletics.

The 2021 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, officially known as the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games and also known as Bangkok–Chonburi 2021, was a planned pan-Asian multi-sport event in indoor and martial arts sports that was supposed to be held from 21 to 30 November 2024 in Thailand, with its capital Bangkok and the eastern Thai province of Chonburi serving as joint co-hosts.
