Gallatin County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 5,589, making it the fifth-least populous county in Illinois. Its county seat is Shawneetown. It is located in the southern portion of Illinois known locally as "Little Egypt".
The 2005 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament involved 65 schools playing in single-elimination play to determine the national champion of men's NCAA Division I college basketball. Thomas Dwight "Dike" Eddleman is generally considered the greatest athlete in the history of athletics at the University of Illinois. Eddleman participated on the University's basketball, track and field, and football teams between the years of 1942 and 1949. Eddleman earned a combined 11 varsity letters in his career at the University, during which he also became a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Eddleman was born in Centralia, Illinois, and attended Centralia High School. On October 24, 2008 Eddleman was named a Distinguished Alumni of Centralia High school. He, along with five others, including James Brady, were the first to be named Distinguished Alumni. His wife, Teddy Eddleman, accepted his award.

The Mile High Illinois, Illinois Sky-City, or simply The Illinois was a proposed skyscraper that is over 1 mile (1,600 m) high, conceived and described by American architect Frank Lloyd Wright in his 1957 book, A Testament. The design, intended to be built in Chicago, included 528 stories, with a gross area of 18,460,000 square feet (1,715,000 m2). Wright stated that there would have been parking for 15,000 cars and 100 helicopters.
Daniel "Dee" Brown is a retired American professional basketball player and current college coach. Brown played at the University of Illinois from 2002 to 2006, receiving numerous awards and accolades, including the 2005 Sporting News National Player of the Year. Brown was selected in the second round of the 2006 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz. Brown played for several international basketball teams from 2007 to 2015.
Donald E. Freeman is an American former professional basketball player. He spent eight seasons (1967–1975) in the American Basketball Association (ABA) and one season (1975–1976) in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Freeman was the youngest of four children.

Home games are played at the State Farm Center, located on the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign's campus in Champaign. Illinois has one pre-tournament national championship in 1915, one retroactive national championship awarded in 1943 by the Premo-Porretta Power Poll. Illinois has appeared in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament 30 times, and has competed in 5 Final Fours, 9 Elite Eights, and has won 17 Big Ten regular season championships.

The team compiled a record of 15–4, and 8–4 against Big Ten Conference opponents. Purdue won the Big Ten championship with an 8–1 record in conference play. Michigan finished in second place out of ten teams. E. J. Mather was in his third year as the team's coach, and Walter "Bud" Rea was the team captain.

The 2014 Heart of Dallas Bowl was an American college football bowl game played on December 26, 2014 at the Cotton Bowl at Fair Park in Dallas, Texas. The fifth edition of the Heart of Dallas Bowl featured the Illinois Fighting Illini against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. The game was played at 1:00 p.m. CST and aired on ESPN. It was one of the 2014–15 bowl games that concluded the 2014 FBS football season. The game is sponsored by the Zaxby's chicken restaurant franchise and is officially known as the Zaxby's Heart of Dallas Bowl.
