Floratone II is the second album by the collective Floratone, which comprises guitarist Bill Frisell, drummer Matt Chamberlain along with producers Lee Townsend and Tucker Martine which was released on the Savoy label in 2012. [1] [2]

Bill Frisell American musician

William Richard Frisell is an American guitarist, composer and arranger. One of the leading guitarists in jazz since the late 1980s, Frisell came to prominence as a stalwart for ECM Records. He went on to work in a variety of contexts, notably as a member of the New York City Downtown Scene where he formed a long partnership with John Zorn. He was also a longtime member of Paul Motian's groups from the early 1980s until Motian's death in 2011. Since 2000, Frisell's eclectic output as a bandleader has emphasized folk, country music, and Americana.

Matthew Chamberlain is an American musician, drummer, producer, songwriter and session player.

Lee Townsend American record producer

Lee Townsend is an American independent music producer, curator, artist manager and co-owner of Songtone, specializing in recordings of singer-songwriters, contemporary composers, improvising musicians, and cross-cultural musical collaborations. He is also a psychotherapist in private practice in the San Francisco Bay Area.

In his review for Allmusic, Thom Jurek notes that, "Floratone II is a sonically more adventurous, yet more musically focused album than its predecessor". [3] On [PopMatters]], John Garrett noted "Floratone II sharpens every shortcoming that the first album had. The pieces are tighter, melodies better pronounced, and the studio manipulation never offers too much or not enough. I'm not going to say that this is one of the best albums of Bill Frisell's career but I will warn you that it can get stuck in your head". [5] On All About Jazz, John Kelman said "as Floratone continues to drive Teo Macero's innovative collage work with trumpeter Miles Davis' late 1960s/early 1970s electric music into the 21st century and beyond, the expansive, cinematic Floratone II gives hope that Frisell, Chamberlain, Townsend and Martine will continue to collaborate well into the future". [4]

Although the extent of his role has been disputed, he also has been associated with the production of Davis' 1959 album Kind of Blue, jazz's best-selling record.

Guitar fretted string instrument

The guitar is a fretted musical instrument that usually has six strings.
