The XVth Mediterranean Games Almería 2005, commonly known as the 2005 Mediterranean Games, were the 15th Mediterranean Games. The Games were held in Almería, Spain over 10 days, from 24 June to 3 July 2005, where 3,203 athletes from 21 countries participated. There were a total of 258 medal events from 27 different sports.

The 2005 Mediterranean Games football tournament was the 15th edition of the Mediterranean Games men's football tournament. The football tournament was held in Almería, Spain between 23 June and 3 July 2005 as part of the 2005 Mediterranean Games and was contested by 9 teams, all countries were represented by the U-23 teams ; Spain won the gold medal.

Xenofon Koutsioumpas is an amateur Greek Greco-Roman wrestler, who competed in the men's super heavyweight category. Koutsioumpas has claimed two medals at the Mediterranean Games, a bronze in the 120-kg division at the 2001 World Wrestling Championships in Patras, and has been selected to the nation's Olympic wrestling team when Greece hosted the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Throughout his sporting career, Koutsioumpas, along with his younger brother Georgios, trained as a member of the Greco-Roman wrestling team for Olympiacos F.C. in Piraeus, and since 2012 they have been training at Atlas Mytilenes under their head coach Sotirios Petrakis.
José Alberto Recuero García is a retired amateur Spanish Greco-Roman wrestler, who competed in the men's middleweight category. He represented his nation Spain in two editions of the Olympic Games, and later capped his sporting career with a bronze medal in the 74-kg division at the 2005 Mediterranean Games in Almería. Before his retirement from wrestling in 2006, Recuero trained full-time for Baron Viver Wrestling Club in his native Barcelona under his coach Bernardo Martínez.
Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia, commonly known as Rubi, is a Spanish former footballer who played as a winger, currently manager of UD Almería.
