Fordham College of Professional and Continuing Studies is a degree-granting undergraduate college within Fordham University in the United States. The college is specifically intended to serve non-traditional students, offering full-time and part-time study options, flexible schedules, and three different campus locations, in order to facilitate the needs of this population.

Fordham University American university

Fordham University is a private research university in New York City. Founded by the Catholic Diocese of New York in 1841, it is the oldest Catholic university in the northeastern United States, the third-oldest university in New York, and the only Jesuit university in New York City.

Courses

The college offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree programs. Fordham College of Liberal Studies follows the same Core Curriculum as the rest of the university's undergraduate colleges, [1] and utilizes much of the same faculty. An Honors Program is available to very high academic achievers by invitation, however, that deviates from the Core Curriculum and relies heavily on faculty-supervised project work and independent research – an opportunity unavailable to non-traditional students at almost all other institutions. [2] Completion of the Honors Program entitles a graduate to have the phrase in cursu honorum noted on the transcript and diploma.

A Bachelor of Arts is a bachelor's degree awarded for an undergraduate course or program in either the liberal arts, sciences, or both. Bachelor of Arts programs generally take three to four years depending on the country, institution, and specific specializations, majors, or minors. The word baccalaureus should not be confused with baccalaureatus, which refers to the one- to two-year postgraduate Bachelor of Arts with Honors degree in some countries.

A Bachelor of Science is an undergraduate academic degree awarded for completed courses that generally last three to five years, or a person holding such a degree.

In cursu honorum is a Latin phrase that translates to "in a course of honors." It refers to specialized study at the undergraduate level. Generally, a small percentage of a student body will be invited to pursue a more rigorous course of study, and be required to maintain a high average. If completed, the phrase in cursu honorum will generally be noted on the college transcript and the diploma of that graduate.

Credit assignment

College credit may be available to any student for prior instruction outside formal academic circumstances (military training, job-based technical training, etc.), and for life-experience learning. It is not possible to cobble together transfer credits, prior instruction credit, and life-experience credit alone to obtain a degree, however. A minimum number of college credits must be earned at Fordham College of Liberal Studies in order to receive a bachelor's degree. [3]

In countries with qualifications frameworks, bachelor's degrees are normally one of the major levels in the framework, although some qualifications titled bachelor's degrees may be at other levels and some qualifications with non-bachelor's titles may be classified as bachelor's degrees.

Hartwick College

The University of Utah Honors College is a public honors college at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah. Founded in 1962, the Honors College provides liberal arts and science education to top University of Utah students based on a holistic admissions process. Utah Honors graduates have included 31 Goldwater Scholars, 22 Rhodes Scholars, 3 Churchill Scholars, and 23 Truman Scholars, and the program ranks fifth among all public universities in the United States for winning Truman Scholarships.
