The Franz Schubert and Modern Music Competition (FS&MM) [2] is an international triennial chamber music contest held in Graz, Austria. [3] It was founded in 1989 by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. [4]
The chamber music competition is one of three major competitions held in Austria, the other two being the International Mozart Competition in Salzburg and the Beethoven International Music Competition in Vienna. [5]
The competition's mission is to present Schubert’s chamber music in the context of contemporary chamber works. [2]
The 12th international chamber music competition will be held 8–15 February 2025, at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. [6] It is open to international musicians born after 15 February 1989. [7]

The prizes being awarded in the 12th competition total more than €74,000 and include mentoring and professional advice on career development for the winners of the first prizes. [1]
The jury will comprise Joseph Breinl, Chia Chou and Sivan-Silver-Garburg & Gil Garburg with Rector Georg Schulz as chair. [11]
The 2022 competition saw 36 lied duos and 24 piano trios enter the first round after having been selected from a total of 249 instrumentalists from 40 countries. [12] More specifically, 36 out of 75 applicants were admitted to the first round of the duo for voice and piano category and 24 out of 33 applicants made it through to the piano trio first round. These were further pared-down to 12 lied duos and 9 piano trios in the semifinals.
In the finals, in the lied duo category, the first prize was not awarded.
The third prize was awarded with a special prize for the best interpretation of a specially commissioned work by Judith Weir. [16]

Established by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in 1989, the competition is held every three years in string quartet, piano trio and voice and piano duo categories.

All works have to be originally written for piano, four hands or two pianos. Arrangements are accepted only if written by the composers. Works for piano, four hands are not allowed to be performed on two pianos.

Mezzo-soprano Bella Adamova in duo with pianist Malte Schäfer won second prize in their category ... the second place is shared by with the Portuguese duo André Baleiro (baritone) & Pedro Costa (piano).
Duo Kayaki/Ebina 3rd Prize & Special Prize ... Soprano Sawako Kayaki and pianist Haruka Ebina formed a duo in the spring of 2021 for the Franz Schubert and Modern Music competition.
IOA-alumna Sawako Kayaki (soprano) & her pianist Haruka Ebina gained the 3rd place in the Chamber Music Competition 'Franz Schubert und die Musik der Moderne' in the category "Song Duo" and they got a special prize for best interpretation of a piece commissioned by Judith Weir.
The Trio Orelon has won the piano trio category at the competition's 11th edition.
