Free LSD is the third and final studio album by hardcore punk band Off!. It was released on September 30, 2022, by Fat Possum Records. [1] It is their first album in eight years, and the follow-up to 2014's Wasted Years .

Contents

The album is used as the soundtrack to a science fiction movie of the same name due for release in 2024, written and directed by guitarist Dimitri Coats, with band members in starring roles. [2]

Background

On July 30, 2022, Off! announced the release of their first album in eight years, along with the single "War Above Los Angeles". [3] The single's music video features appearances by David Yow, Don Nguyen, Chloe Dykstra, James Duval, and D.H. Peligro in his final recording before his death. [4]

Tour

In support of the album, the band announced a North American tour, starting on October 24, 2022, at the Valley Bar in Phoenix, Arizona, and finishing on December 17, 2022, at the Lodge Room in Los Angeles, California. [5]

However, on October 24, 2022, Off! announced they had to postpone the tour due to drummer Justin Brown having to be hospitalized. [6]

Free LSD was met with "universal acclaim" reviews from critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream publications, this release received an average score of 85, based on 5 reviews. [7]

Off! was an American hardcore punk supergroup, formed in Los Angeles, California in late 2009 by Circle Jerks/Black Flag singer Keith Morris, Burning Brides frontman Dimitri Coats, Redd Kross bassist Steven Shane McDonald, and Rocket From The Crypt/Hot Snakes drummer Mario Rubalcaba. In 2021, it was announced that the line-up had changed, with McDonald and Rubalcaba replaced by Autry Fulbright II and Justin Brown, respectively. Deafheaven is an American post-metal band formed in 2010. Oathbreaker is a Belgian band from Flanders, formed in 2008 and currently signed to Deathwish Inc. The band consists of guitarists Lennart Bossu and Gilles Demolder, drummer Wim Coppers, and vocalist Caro Tanghe who performs both screamed and sung vocals. They are a part of Church of Ra, an artistic collective started by Amenra, a band of which Lennart and Caro are also members. Like Amenra, Oathbreaker emerged from the Belgian underground hardcore punk scene but integrated extreme metal and art music aesthetics.
