Gaborone South is a constituency in Gaborone City represented in the National Assembly of Botswana.
The constituency was originally created in 1984, following the division of the single constituency of Gaborone and has undergone multiple changes in its size and composition. Gaborone South was a safe seat for the BNF between 1984 and 2009. [2] It was the seat of Kenneth Koma, president of the BNF and leader of the Opposition between 1984 and 2003. In 2009 it was narrowly won by Kagiso Patrick Molatlhegi of the BDP and has since become in a marginal BDP seat. Molatlhegi was re-elected in 2014 and succeeded in 2019 by Dumezweni Mthimkhulu, also from the BDP.

The Botswana Democratic Party,, is a centre-right political party in Botswana. From the country's inaugural election in 1965 until the 2024 general election the party governed the country without interruption for 58 years. At the time of its defeat, the BDP was the longest continuous ruling party in the democratic world.
The Botswana National Front (BNF) is a social democratic political party in Botswana. It was the main opposition party in Botswana from the 1969 elections until the 2024 elections.
General elections were held in Botswana on 16 October 2009, alongside local elections, with early voting in 26 polling stations abroad taking place 3 October. The result was a tenth successive victory for the Botswana Democratic Party, which won 45 of the 57 elected seats in the National Assembly.
Kanye South was a constituency in the Southern District represented in the National Assembly of Botswana. Further to the completion of the 2022 Delimitation of Parliamentary constituencies, the seat was subjected to significant boundary changes and was replaced by Kanye West, to be first contested at the 2024 general election.

After the completion of the 2022 Delimitation of Parliamentary constituencies, the seat was be subject to significant boundary changes merging with Mmathethe-Molapowabojang. It was abolished and renamed Goodhope-Mmathethe, which was first contested at the 2024 general election.
