Gabriel Tual (born 9 April 1998) is a French middle-distance runner specialising in the 800 metres. [2]

At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, after making it through the 800m preliminaries running 1:45.63, Tual ran 1:44.28 in the semifinals on 1 August 2021. This qualified him to compete in the 800 metres final at the 2020 Summer Olympics, where he finished 7th in 1:46.03. [3] [4]

During the 2024 European Athletics Championships, on 9 June 2024, he became the European Champion in the 800 metres, becoming the first Frenchman to achieve this feat. [5]

Tual's personal best is 1:41.61, which he achieved at the 2024 Meeting de Paris on 7 July, which places him as the sixthfastest man and the secondfastest European in the two lap race. Ahead of Tual in this race was Kenya's Emmanuel Wanyonyi, who ran 1:41.58, and Algeria's Djamel Sedjati, who ran 1:41.56. [6]

At the 2024 Olympic Games, Tual finished sixth in the 800 metres final, with a time of 1:42.14. [7]

Sophie O'Sullivan is an Irish athlete. She won a silver medal in the 800 metres at the 2018 European Athletics U18 Championships in Győr, Hungary. O'Sullivan won 1500 metres gold at the 2023 European Athletics U23 Championships in Espoo, Finland. She represented the Washington Huskies at the University of Washington in NCAA track and field competitions between 2021 and 2024, graduating in June 2024.

Claudia Hollingsworth is an Australian athlete. In 2022, she became the Oceanic champion in the 1500 metres at 17 years old. In 2024, she became Australian champion and national under-20 record holder over 800 metres. At Paris 2024, she made her Olympic debut in the women’s 800m.

The men's 800 metres at the 2024 Summer Olympics was held in four rounds at the Stade de France in Paris, France, between 7 and 10 August 2024. This was the 30th time that the men's 800 metres was contested at the Summer Olympics. A total of 48 athletes were able to qualify for the event by entry standard or ranking.
