J. Gary Simrill (born May 29,1966) is an American politician. He is a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives from the 46th District,serving since 1992. On December 6,2016,he was elected as majority leader of the South Carolina House,which he held until May 2022. He is a member of the Republican party. [1]
Simrill was the primary sponsor of the Infrastructure and Economic Development Act that went into effect on July 1,2017.
During the 2019 Legislative Session,he authored and shepherded through the General Assembly the bill that allowed the Carolina Panthers to move their practice facilities to Rock Hill,South Carolina.

A white supremacist who opposed civil rights for black Americans,Tillman led a paramilitary group of Red Shirts during South Carolina's violent 1876 election. On the floor of the U.S. Senate,he defended lynching,and frequently ridiculed black Americans in his speeches,boasting of having helped kill them during that campaign.

He was a delegate to the State constitutional convention in 1895 and was a member of the State house of representatives in 1906.

The 1876 South Carolina gubernatorial election was held on November 7,1876 to select the governor of the state of South Carolina. The election campaign was a referendum on the Radical Republican-led state government and their Reconstruction policies.
