George Paul Shelley (born 27 July 1993) is an English singer, actor and presenter, and member of the boy band Union J. [1]
In 2015, he competed in the fifteenth series of the ITV reality show I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! and finished as a runner-up to Vicky Pattison. [2] He co-presented The Capital Breakfast Show alongside Dave Berry and Lilah Parsons. He also appeared on BBC show Murder in Successville as a sidekick. [3]
Shelley was born to Toni Harris in Clevedon, North Somerset (then in Avon). [4] He attended Kings of Wessex Academy in Cheddar before graduating from Weston College in 2011. [5] [6] Shelley has two brothers, two step-sisters Anabelle and Louisa, four half-brothers. He had a younger sister, Harriet, who died after being hit by a car in 2017. [7] Shelley attended Weston College in Weston-super-Mare from 2010 until 2011, where he completed a BTEC Extended Diploma in Graphic Design.
In 2012, Shelley was part of British band Only the Young, but left the band to audition for the ninth series of The X Factor as a solo artist singing "Toxic" and was eliminated during the bootcamp stage, as were boy band Triple J. However, due to Rough Copy having to withdraw from the show, an extra spot was opened up in Louis Walsh's category for judges' houses. Triple J's manager, Blair Dreelan, was contacted by The X Factor producers with an offer for the group to return, on the basis that Shelley was added to the three-piece. All parties accepted the offer and the band – now a four-piece – became Union J and advanced to judges' houses alongside fellow recalled group Times Red. [8] Union J went on to progress to the live shows and finished fourth, behind Christopher Maloney, Jahméne Douglas and eventual winner James Arthur.
On 3 March 2016, Shelley left the band so he could focus on his acting and broadcasting career. [9] On 31 January 2022 it was announced Union J would be reforming with Shelley rejoining the band.
Shelley signed to MN2S agency in 2015, [10] but left for Coalition Talent where he is represented by agent Vinesh Patel for his live work [11] and Ashley Vallance at Cole Kitchenn for management. In 2016, George joined the radio station The Capital Breakfast Show as a regular presenter alongside broadcaster Lilah Parsons and Dave Berry. In early 2016, George hosted the Brits Red Carpet live show alongside Lilah Parsons, [12] and E!'s Golden Globes coverage alongside Sarah-Jane Crawford. [13]
In April 2017, Shelley left The Capital Breakfast Show. [14] [15]
In July 2016, Shelley made his acting debut by guest-starring in an episode of the British sitcom series Murder in Successville in series 2, episode 4 as Sidekick. [16] In 2017, Shelley made his second acting appearance in Benidorm . He played Giles in series 9, episode 4. [17]
On 5 November 2022 Shelly appeared in 'Queens for the Night', a TV show presented by Lorraine Kelly, where celebrities transformed into drag queens for a night and performed on stage in front of a live audience. Shelly's Drag mentor was 'La Voix'. Shelly's drag name was 'Dame Shelly Sassy' and they sung a medley of tunes. Fellow 'Union J' member Jaymi Hensley was in the audience in drag too.
In 2016, Shelley announced that he would be releasing his debut EP, with a series of music videos to accompany it. The lead single from the EP, titled "360", was released on 20 November 2016. [18] Shelley has also modelled and released a calendar in 2017. In December 2017, Shelley returned to the fourteenth series of The X Factor , where he co-presented alongside Stacey Solomon. He interviewed the friends and families of the finalists at the live finals from the ExCeL London on things such as how they feel about their finalist who is competing in the competition and to send good luck messages to finalists.
In 2019, Shelley released a cover of "Put Your Records On". On 17 December 2021, Shelley released his single "Lose to Find". [19] produced by Ofer Shabi and Yaniv Fridel at Soho Sonic Studios.
On 3 February 2016, in response to rumours regarding his sexuality, Shelley uploaded a video to YouTube, in which he stated that he is attracted to both men and women. However, he also stated that he does not want to be labelled as bisexual: "I've had girlfriends that I've loved and they've been amazing periods of my life. But I've also had boyfriends. And I just want you to know that whether I decide to be with a girl next or a guy next, it's because I love them and it shouldn't be a big deal." [20]
In July 2018, upon the release of his debut single "Technicolour", the singer came out as gay. In an interview for Celebmix.com, he said: "I was scared for a long time, terrified of coming out. But when I did everyone was just like 'yeah'." [21]
In February 2022, it was announced he was dating medical student and Out of the Blue singer Rory Naylor. [22]

David Robert Berry is a British TV and radio presenter. Berry currently hosts the Absolute Radio Breakfast Show, every weekday from 6am. He previously presented The Capital Breakfast Show from 2012 until 2017, alongside Lisa Snowdon, George Shelley and Lilah Parsons.
Michael Louis Vincent Walsh is an Irish music manager and television personality. He has managed Johnny Logan, Boyzone, Jedward and Westlife, four of Ireland's most successful pop acts in the 1990s and 2000s. He has also served as a judge on television talent competition shows, including Popstars (2001–2002), You're a Star (2003–2004), The X Factor, and Ireland's Got Talent (2018–2019). Charles Richard Wilson is an English musician and the frontman of five-piece rock band Kaiser Chiefs. Before the formation of the band, in 2003, Wilson was a member of the band Runston Parva, which consisted of members of Kaiser Chiefs. Shelly Johnson, is a fictional character in the Twin Peaks franchise. She was created by the series creators Mark Frost and David Lynch and portrayed by Mädchen Amick. She is a main character in the original series, and has a supporting role in the prequel films Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992) and Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces (2014). Shelly returns in the 2017 revival series. In the original series, Shelly dropped out of high school to marry the trucker Leo Johnson, who began to abuse her after their marriage. Union J are an English boy band, consisting of members JJ Hamblett, Jaymi Hensley, George Shelley and Josh Cuthbert. Shelley left the group in 2016 and was replaced by Casey Johnson, who left several months later, Cuthbert left the group in 2018 leaving the band as duo until they disbanded in 2019. The band formed in 2011, originally as a trio known as Triple J, consisting of Cuthbert, Hamblett and Hensley. They auditioned for the ninth series of the British television music competition The X Factor where they met Shelley who joined the band at the judges' request. They were the tenth contestant eliminated and were subsequently signed to Sony Music subsidiary RCA Records. Their debut single "Carry You" was released in June 2013. Their self-titled debut studio album followed in October 2013 and peaked at number 6 on the UK Albums Chart.
Fleur East is an English singer, songwriter, rapper and presenter. East competed on the second series of The X Factor in 2005 as part of the girl group Addictiv Ladies but was unsuccessful. In 2012, she signed with Strictly Rhythm. In collaboration with Drumsound & Bassline Smith, she released "One in a Million" (2013), which peaked at number 53 on the UK Singles Chart.
Only the Young were a British pop group consisting of Mikey Bromley, Betsy-Blue English, Charlie George and Parisa Tarjomani. They were created and managed by Jo Perry. The group previously featured George Shelley, who auditioned for the ninth series of The X Factor as a soloist, was later added to Union J who made the live shows and were the tenth contestant eliminated in the semi-final. This was when Shelley was later replaced by Bromley. In 2014, Only the Young entered the eleventh series of The X Factor and made the live shows, where they were the tenth contestant eliminated.
Stereo Kicks were an English-Irish boy band who were formed and were the twelfth contestant eliminated on the eleventh series of The X Factor in 2014. Stereo Kicks consisted of; James Graham, Jake Sims, Chris Leonard, Charlie Jones, Casey Johnson, Barclay Beales, Reece Bibby, and Tom Mann. Their debut single "Love Me So" was released on 21 June 2015 and charted at number 31 on the UK Singles Chart. Just a month later, however, having been together under a year, they announced they were disbanding due to their failure to land a record deal.
"You Got It All" is a song performed by English boy band Union J, and written by Nasri (Magic!). It was released on 28 November 2014 in Ireland, and on 30 November 2014 in the UK, as the second and final single from Union J's second studio album You Got It All – The Album (2014). Additionally, a version featuring The Vamps was released on 1 December 2014. It's the group's final single with George Shelley after he left the group on 4 March 2016.

Roman Kemp is an American-born British radio host and television personality. From 2017 to 2024, he presented the national radio network Capital FM breakfast show. Kemp presents The One Show on BBC One. In 2019, he finished in third place in the nineteenth series of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!.
