Georgia May Foote (born 11 February 1991) is an English actress and model. She is best known for playing Alison Simmons in the BBC school drama series Grange Hill from 2005 to 2008 and Katy Armstrong in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street from 2010 to 2015. [1] In 2015 she was runner-up on the BBC celebrity talent show Strictly Come Dancing . She came 98th in FHM's Sexiest Women of 2015. [2]

Katy Armstrong

Katy Armstrong is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera, Coronation Street, played by Georgia May Foote. She made her first appearance during the episode broadcast on 30 July 2010. Foote had previously appeared in the soap in January that same year as Jess Burrows. Katy is Owen Armstrong's youngest daughter and Izzy Armstrong's sister. Her storylines have mostly revolved around her relationship with Chesney Brown, her pregnancy and being a mother to Joseph and embarking on an affair with Ryan Connor. Foote's departure from the show was announced in April 2014, with her having filmed her final scenes on 16 February 2015 and departed on 20 March 2015. Katy was killed off-screen in a car accident in Portugal on 18 October 2017.

Early life

Foote attended Elton High School in Bury and then Bury College. [3] She has an older sister named Katie. [4]

The Elton High School is a mixed secondary school located on Walshaw Road to the north-west of Bury town centre in Greater Manchester.

Bury College is an institute of higher learning for ages 16 and above. It is located within the Borough of Bury, Greater Manchester, England. The college offers a wide range of subjects from the A-Level, BTEC and diploma format, among other subjects provided.

Career

Foote has been appearing on British television since 2004. She has played two different murder victims: Angela Fairley in the psychological thriller Conviction , and as Charley Witham in Life on Mars . [4] Other roles are Rosie in Sorted , Katy Barnes in Doctors , Jennifer Thurber in the BBC drama Casualty (20 September 2008), Julie Tinniswood in the ITV drama Heartbeat [5] (3 May 2009), Bryony in Emmerdale (April 2010), and Gemma in This Is England 86 . She played the role of Lauren in the short film Cotton Stones. She also appeared in two domestic abuse television adverts. [6] She made a guest appearance in Coronation Street as Jess Burrows (18 January 2010), but was re-introduced as a new, regular character in July 2010, playing Katy Armstrong. [7] She left the show in 2015 to pursue other acting roles, interests, projects, and her modelling career. [8]

Conviction is a British television crime drama that premiered on BBC Three on 7 November 2004. The six-part series stars William Ash, David Warner, Ian Puleston-Davies, Reece Dinsdale, Nicholas Gleaves, Laura Fraser, Jason Watkins and Zoe Henry.

<i>Sorted</i> (TV series) BBC television drama series

Sorted is a six-part BBC television drama series that follows the personal and professional lives of several postmen. It was first broadcast in 2006 on BBC One and BBC HD. The series was created by Danny Brocklehurst, whose previous credits including Clocking Off, The Stretford Wives and Shameless. The series, set in Manchester but filmed in Stockport, and stars Neil Dudgeon, Will Mellor, Hugo Speer, Cal MacAninch and Dean Lennox Kelly.

<i>Doctors</i> (2000 TV series) British soap opera

Doctors is a continuing British medical soap opera which first broadcast in the United Kingdom on BBC One on 26 March 2000. Set in the fictional Midlands town of Letherbridge, defined as being in the city of Birmingham, the soap follows the lives of the staff of both a NHS Doctor's surgery and University Campus Surgery, as well as their families and friends.

In 2013, Foote was nominated for the Sexiest Female Award at the British Soap Awards, but lost out to fellow Coronation Street actress Michelle Keegan. In 2014, she was nominated for the same award but again lost out to Michelle Keegan who portrayed Tina McIntyre in the show. In 2015 she came 98th on FHM's 100 Sexiest Women, she featured alongside Keegan who came 1st, the first time two stars from the same British soap had been in the Top 100 public poll.

Foote was signed to a modelling contract with Select Model Management in October 2014. [9]

Select Model Management is a modelling agency based in London. Founded and owned by Tandy Anderson and sisters Clare and Chrissie Castagnetti who opened the agency in 1977. As of 2013, the agency represented 38 top-ranked models.

Foote has appeared as a guest and contestant on shows such as Fake Reaction , All Star Family Fortunes , BBC Breakfast , Celebrity Juice and Loose Women .

Strictly Come Dancing

On 13 August 2015, it was announced that Foote would be participating in the thirteenth series of the BBC celebrity talent show Strictly Come Dancing from September 2015. [10] She was partnered with professional dancer Giovanni Pernice. The couple eventually reached the final where they received the maximum 40 points for their Charleston. They ended as joint runners-up along with Kellie Bright and Kevin Clifton, losing out to Jay McGuiness and Aliona Vilani who won the competition. [11]
