The New Hope Movement (Malay : Gerakan Harapan Baru) or simply known as GHB, was a social movement in Malaysia. The movement was launched by G18 led by former PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu at a hotel in downtown Kuala Lumpur on 13 July 2015. [1] The G18 is the former moderate and progressive leaders of PAS who were ousted from senior position earlier at the party's 2015 PAS Muktamar. [2]
The movement was the principles of moderation, inclusiveness, progressiveness and concern for the people, and committed to the real value of Islam, 'mercy to all' (rahmatan lil 'alamin) which gives protection and justice to all Malaysian. Membership of the movement is open to anyone, including non-Muslims.

The basis of Gerakan Harapan Baru ideologies are Syura (Consultation) and guidance from scholars and Muslim thinkers.
On 31 August 2015, Mohamad Sabu announced GHB took over a dormant Malaysian political party, Malaysian Workers' Party after its attempt to form a new party called Parti Progresif Islam (PPI) was rejected by the Home Affairs Ministry. [3]
Malaysian Workers Party members approved the change of its name to National Trust Party or Parti Amanah Negara (AMANAH) in an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) on 8 September 2015. AMANAH was officially launched on 16 September 2015 at national level, while it was still awaiting the approval of the Registrar of Societies (RoS). AMANAH is taking over and rebranding the Workers' Party into a new political party spearheaded by progressive leaders, who have left PAS. [4] The new logo and flag was also unveiled at its official launch on that day. [5]

He is a member of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU), a component party of the PN coalition and was a member of the People's Justice Party (PKR), a component party of the PH coalition, Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a former component party of the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) and Barisan Alternatif (BA) coalitions and United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a component party of the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.
Datuk Seri Salahuddin bin Ayub was a Malaysian politician who served as Minister of Domestic Trade and Costs of Living in the Unity Government administration under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim from December 2022 to his death in July 2023 and Minister of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry in the Pakatan Harapan administration under Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad from May 2018 to his resignation and the collapse of the PH administration in February 2020. He also served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Pulai from May 2018 to his death in July 2023 and for Kubang Kerian from March 2004 to May 2013 as well as Member of the Johor State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Simpang Jeram from May 2018 to his death in July 2023. He was a member of the National Trust Party (AMANAH), a component party of PH coalition. He also served as the 1st and founding Deputy President of AMANAH from September 2015 and State Chairman of PH of Johor from September 2022 to his death in July 2023. He was previously a member, Youth Chief and Vice-President of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a former component party of the former Pakatan Rakyat (PR) and Barisan Alternatif (BA) coalitions. But he together with a few other progressive leaders led by Mohamad Sabu referred as G18 were ousted during the 2015 PAS Muktamar which had launched Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB) and founded AMANAH.
Datuk Wira Mohd Hatta bin Md. Ramli is a Malaysian politician and physician who has served as the Senator since March 2023. He served as the Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and former Minister Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof from July 2018 to the collapse of the PH administration in February 2020. and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Lumut from May 2018 to November 2022 and for Kuala Krai from March 2008 to May 2018. He is a member of the National Trust Party (AMANAH), a component party of PH coalition and was a member, Treasurer, Elections Director and Central Committee Member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a former component party of the former Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition. He has served as the Vice President of AMANAH since January 2024 and the 2nd Secretary General of AMANAH from December 2019 to his promotion to the vice presidency in January 2024. He was a member of the Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB), the group of PAS progressive Islamists leaders who have lost in the 2015 PAS party election, they later founded a new party, namely AMANAH.
Mujahid bin Yusof Rawa, is a Malaysian politician who has served as Senator since May 2023. He served as the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of Religious Affairs in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad from July 2018 to the collapse of the PH administration in February 2020 as well as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Parit Buntar from March 2008 to November 2022. He is a member of the National Trust Party (AMANAH), a component party of the PH coalition and was a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a former component party of the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition. He has also served as the 2nd Deputy President of AMANAH since December 2023 and State Chairman of PH of Perak since June 2021.
Datuk Seri Dr. Haji Dzulkefly bin Ahmad is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Minister of Health for the second term in the Unity Government administration under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim since December 2023 and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kuala Selangor from March 2008 to May 2013 and again since May 2018. He served his first term as the Minister of Health in the PH administration under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad from May 2018 to his resignation and the collapse of the PH administration in February 2020. He is a member of the National Trust Party (AMANAH), a component party of PH coalition and was a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a former component party of the former Pakatan Rakyat (PR) and Barisan Alternatif (BA) opposition coalitions. He has also served as the Vice President of AMANAH since December 2023.
Datuk Seri Haji Mohamad bin Sabu, born in 14 October 1954 commonly known as Mat Sabu, is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security in the Unity Government administration under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim since November 2022 and Minister of Defence in the PH administration under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad from May 2018 to the collapse of the PH administration in February 2020. He has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kota Raja since May 2018, Kuala Kedah from November 1999 to March 2004, Kubang Kerian from April 1995 to November 1999 and Nilam Puri from October 1990 to April 1995. He is a member of the National Trust Party (AMANAH), a component party of the PH coalition. He has also served as the 1st and founding President of AMANAH since September 2015.
The National Trust Party is a registered political party in Malaysia advocating a reformist strand of political Islam. The party was founded as the Malaysia Workers' Party before being handed over in August 2015 to Gerakan Harapan Baru, a group of progressive Islamist leaders of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party which lost in the June 2015 party election. This group of Islamists then redefined the Malaysia Workers' Party as an Islamic reformist party on 16 September 2015. The party currently has eight elected Members of Parliament. It is one of the four component parties of the Pakatan Harapan ruling coalition in Malaysia.
Dato' Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah bin Raja Ahmad Baharuddin Shah is a Malaysian politician who served as the Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and former Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin from July 2018 to the collapse of the PH administration in February 2020 and the Senator from July 2018 to July 2021 as well as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kuala Terengganu from May 2013 to May 2018. He is a member of the National Trust Party (AMANAH), a component party of the PH coalition. He has served as the State Chairman of PH of Terengganu since August 2017.
Mohamed Hanipa bin Maidin is a Malaysian politician and barrister who served as the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of legal affairs in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and former Minister Liew Vui Keong from July 2018 to the collapse of the PH administration in February 2020 and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sepang from May 2013 to November 2022. He is a member of the National Trust Party (AMANAH), a component party of the PH coalition. and was a member of Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS). He and other progressive PAS leaders referred to as the G18 were ousted at the 2015 PAS Muktamar. This led them to launch Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB), which took over the dormant Malaysian Workers' Party, after their attempt to form a new party called Parti Progresif Islam (PPI) was rejected by the Home Affairs Ministry. Haji Adly bin Zahari is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Deputy Minister of Defence in the Unity Government administration under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Minister Mohamad Hasan since December 2022, Member of Parliament (MP) for Alor Gajah since November 2022 and Member of the Malacca State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Bukit Katil since May 2018. He served as the 11th Chief Minister of Malacca from May 2018 to March 2020 and State Leader of the Opposition of Malacca from April 2020 to December 2022. He is a member of the National Trust Party (AMANAH), a component party of the PH coalition and was a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a component party of formerly the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition. In AMANAH, he has served as a Vice-President since September 2021 and State Chairman of Malacca since August 2017. He was also the Treasurer-General of AMANAH prior to his promotion to the party vice presidency. He is also the sole Malacca AMANAH MLA.
Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Abdul Kadir bin Sheikh Fadzir is a Malaysian politician and former seven-term Member of Parliament (MP) of Malaysia representing Kulim-Bandar Baharu constituency in the state of Kedah. He also formerly served as the Minister of Information (2004–2006), Minister of Culture, Arts and Tourism (1999–2004) in the Cabinet of Malaysia.

He also served as the 1st and founding Secretary-General of AMANAH from September 2015 to December 2019.
The National Alliance is a political coalition that was previously known as the Malaysian Party Alliance Association. It is the second largest political coalition in Dewan Rakyat with 74 seats after Pakatan Harapan (PH) with 81 seats.
Ustaz Datuk Seri Haji Ahmad bin Awang is a Malaysian politician and religious leader from the National Trust Party (AMANAH), a component party of Pakatan Harapan (PH). He was a member of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), then a component party of the Barisan Alternatif (BA) and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) opposition coalitions, before leaving the party after being defeated in the 2015 PAS Muktamar. At the party level, he is the current General Advisor of the National Trust Party.

He served as Member of the Seremban City Council (MBS) from 2020 to 2023. He is a member of the National Trust Party (AMANAH), a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition and was a member of the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS), a component party of formerly Pakatan Rakyat (PR) and Barisan Alternatif (BA) coalitions. He has also served as State Chairman of AMANAH of Negeri Sembilan since November 2019. He was State Vice Chairman of AMANAH of Negeri Sembilan before his promotion to the state chairmanship in November 2019. He also served as the State Commissioner of PAS of Negeri Sembilan from 1999 to 2001.
