Gerardo Rosario (born 14 August 1952) is a Filipino former swimmer who has competed in the Summer Olympic Games. [1]

Career

Rosario competed in the Summer Olympics, competing for his home country Philippines in the 1972 and 1976 editions. [1]

Rosario was also a competitor in the Asian Games, first competing in the 1974 Asian Games in Tehran where he won two silvers in the 100-meter and 200-meter back stroke, and three bronzes in the 4x100-meter and 4x200-meter freestyle relays, and the 4x100-meter medley relay. [2] He is also the gold medalist for the 200-meter men's freestyle event of the 1978 Asian Games. [3] He also won two bronzes in the 4x100-meter medley relay and 4x200-meter freestyle relay. [2]

He was coached by Rick Powers. [4]

Post-retirement

In 2016, Rosario, along with 16 others, was inducted in the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame. [5]

Rosario was elected as corporate secretary of Philippine Swimming, Inc. (PSI; then known as Philippine Amateur Swimming Association or PASA), the governing body of swimming in the Philippines, in 2010. [3] In April 2017, Rosario was designated as Officer in Charge or Acting President of PSI. [6]

She was also Canada's flagbearer at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Shannon Shakespeare is a Canadian former competitive swimmer and freestyle specialist. Shakespeare competed for Canada at two consecutive Summer Olympics in 1996 and 2000. At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, she finished in 17th position in the 100-metre freestyle, 5th place in the 4x200 metre freestyle and 4x100 metre medley relays, and 7th place in the 4x100 metre freestyle relay. A key member of the Canadian women's relay teams in the 1990s, Shakespeare won a gold medal in the 4x200 metre freestyle relay at the 1995 World Championships. She also won a bronze medal in the 50-metre freestyle and 4x100-metre freestyle relay in the 1994 Commonwealth Games. She was the Canadian champion in the women's 50, 100, and 200-metre freestyle, and a 23-time All American while swimming at the University of Michigan.

Lindsay Dianne Benko, known by her married name Lindsay Mintenko since 2005, is an American former competition swimmer, two-time Olympian, former world record-holder, and a managing director of USA Swimming. She represented the United States women as a Team Captain at the 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics, taking a gold medal in freestyle relays both years. She held the short-course world record in the 400-meter freestyle at 3:59.53, for nearly three years from January 2003 to December 2005.

Catherine Mai-Lan Fox, born December 15, 1977 in Detroit, Michigan, is an American former swimmer who competed for Stanford University, and won two gold medals swimming freestyle at the 1996 Summer Olympics, one in the 4x100 freestyle relay and one in the 4x100 medley relay.

While training with Santa Barbara Masters, he would break numerous world and national age group records as a Masters competitor between 1981-2011.

He had, overall, won 26 Gold medals in Philippine Olympic Games and 7 in SEA Age Group Swimming Championship, he represented the country Philippines in Southeast Asian Games and Asian Games.

Brian Brinkley is an English former competitive swimmer who represented Great Britain in the Olympic Games, FINA world championships and European championships, and England in the Commonwealth Games, during the 1970s. During his elite swimming career, he won thirteen medals in major international swimming championships.

George Warren Smith is a former competition swimmer who represented Canada at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. Smith placed fifth in the event final of the 200-metre individual medley, fourth in the 4x200-metre freestyle relay, and seventh in the 4x100-metre freestyle relay. Zachary "Zach" Douglas Apple is a retired American competitive swimmer who specialized in the sprint freestyle events. He used to swim for DC Trident in the International Swimming League. He won his first Olympic gold medal in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay at the 2020 Summer Olympics, swimming in the prelims and the final of the event, and later in the same Olympic Games won a gold medal and helped set a new world record and Olympic record in the 4x100-meter medley relay, swimming the freestyle leg of the relay in the final.
