Gino Rubert (born 1969) is a Spanish artist. He lives and works in Barcelona, Berlin and Cuernavaca (Mexico). Rubert has worked in the media of painting, video and installation art.
Rubert was born in 1969 in Mexico City. Son of the well-known Catalan philosopher Xavier Rubert de Ventós [1] and the Mexican psychoanalyst and writer Magdalena Catala [2] He studied Illustration at the Parsons School of New York and Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona. [3] In 1993 he won the Sala Parés Young Painting Prize. [4] [5] The same year he was also granted by the Spanish Academy in Rome in recognition of two hyper-realistic paintings. [6]
In 2008, three paintings of his were used to illustrate both Catalan and Spanish covers for Millennium trilogy by Stieg Larsson. [7] [8]
He has taught at several art schools and universities such as Massana and EINA in Barcelona, Centro Cultural de España in Montevideo or Universidad Nacional de Bogotá. [9] [10]
Rubert is a multidisciplinary artist who works in a wide range of media, such as, painting, drawing, watercolor, video, installation or sculpture. [11] [12] Recently, he has been working on a series of paintings, drawings and little objects called “ex-votos” in reference to the homonymous Mexican devotional offers. [13]
He is mostly known for his particular collage technique combining acrylic painting with photography, [14] holograms, fabric, thread, plastic, human hair and other elements. [15] The use of old and recent photographic portraits, found in marketplaces around the world, downloaded from the Internet or shot and edited by him are ever-present in his works. [16]
Rubert cites the Post-Impressionists and their circle as his main influence, including Henri Rousseau, Bonnard, Gauguin, and Toulouse-Lautrec. [17] Great European Masters like Fra Angelico, Jan van Eyck and Vermeer also influenced Rubert's painting. We can also find some references to avant-garde and contemporary artists such as Balthus, David Hockney, Alex Katz or Georg Baselitz. There are also visible parallels with the masters of Latin American Realismo Mágico [18] and Surrealismo, including Frida Kahlo, [19] Carrington, and Remedios Varo. [20] [21] Rubert's ideology stems from Spanish painting tradition where images are meant to create the illusion of a different space or dimension.
Rubert's works have an ironic sense of humor and are charged with a subtle and naïf eroticism. Interested in personal and sentimental complexities he explores romance and relationships in contemporary society digging deep into love, sex and couple. [22]
Rubert's canvases often have different layers of meaning. He describes himself as “a creator of both beautiful and annoying” [23] images that elude/avoid any narrative or lineal interpretation and he says he tries “to make images that suggest something instead of explaining a particular story”. [24]
His works have been exhibited in several museums, galleries and cultural centers worldwide such as the Akioshiday Museum (Japan), Museo Reina Sofía (Madrid), Künstlerhaus Bethanien (Berlin), Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona, and Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (Barcelona). He is represented in numerous museums and collections.
In 2011, his first novel, “Apio. Notas Caninas”, was published and awarded New Talent Literature Prize by FNAC. [25]
Joaquín Torres-García was a prominent Uruguayan-Spanish artist, theorist, and author, renowned for his international impact in the modern art world. Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, his family moved to Catalonia, Spain, where his artistic journey began. His career spanned several countries including Spain, New York, Italy, France, and Uruguay. A founder of art schools and groups, he notably established the first European abstract-art group, Cercle et Carré, in Paris in 1929 which included Piet Mondrian and Kandinsky. Torres-García's legacy is deeply rooted in his development of Modern Classicism and Universal Constructivism.

Antoni Taulé is a Spanish painter, architect, and performer. A street artist during the sixties, his art has been labelled as part of hyperrealism and a representative of the “new figurative” movement. Las Meninas is a series of 58 paintings that Pablo Picasso painted in 1957 by performing a comprehensive analysis, reinterpreting and recreating several times Las Meninas by Diego Velazquez. The suite is fully preserved at the Museu Picasso in Barcelona and is the only complete series of the artist that remains together. This is a very extensive survey work, which consists of 45 performances of the original picture, 9 scenes of a dove, 3 landscapes and a portrait of Jacqueline.
The Spanish Wedding or La Vicaría (1868–1870) is a masterwork by Marià Fortuny i Marsal, also known as Marià Fortuny or Mariano Fortuny. La Vicaría exemplifies genre painting of the 19th century. The use of jewel tones, contrasts between light and dark, and the virtuosity of the work attest to Fortuny's talent. It resides at Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain.

Laurent Jiménez-Balaguer Born in L’Hospitalet del Llobregat, Barcelona (Catalonia), Spain. He lived and worked in Paris. During the 1950s, he was one of the most distinguished painters of Catalan art, known for creating a private language. He belonged to the Abstract Expressionism and European Informalism. These postmodern vanguardists have been characterized by their multiculturalism, manifested in their contrasting pictorial textures, and the need to invent a new mindset.

Galeries Dalmau was an art gallery in Barcelona, Spain, from 1906 to 1930. The gallery was founded and managed by the Symbolist painter and restorer Josep Dalmau i Rafel. The aim was to promote, import and export avant-garde artistic talent. Dalmau is credited for having launched avant-garde art in Spain.
Jesús Carles de Vilallonga i Rosell was a Spanish/Canadian figurative artist who worked primarily in the medium of egg tempera. He is best known for his richly textured paintings in an intricate, highly colored style that is not easy even though everything is readily intelligible: male and females characters, beasts, forests, architectural structures and artifacts. Vilallonga's iconography draws from a broad and complex painting tradition ranging from Romanesque art, the Renaissance, and Surrealism, while maintaining his own contemporary style. His work is sometimes related to Symbolism and his production is always enhanced by the contributions of abstraction. He works with the "inner eye" which Freud described as the most profound and the most intelligent, in a sojourn through nature and man's hidden interior.
Fabio Hurtado is a Spanish contemporary painter, known for an intimate work that shows the feminine universe in an urban context at the beginning of industrial modernity. During his career Hurtado has received important awards and distinctions. In 2004 six of his works were chosen to illustrate a philatelic series entitled "Women and reading", issued by Correos de España to enhance the cultural integration of women in this country in the twentieth century. The refined drawing, the underlying emotionality, and a certain cinematographic air have deserved praise in Hurtado's artwork.
