Glasbury is the name of an electoral wards in central Powys, Wales. It covers the community of Glasbury (which contains part of the village of the same name) as well as the neighbouring communities of Clyro and Painscastle. [1] The ward elects a county councillor to Powys County Council.
According to the 2011 census the population of the ward was 2,299. [2]
Independent councillor Margaret Morris represented the ward on Powys County Council until May 2012, when the seat was won by Christopher Davies for the Welsh Conservative Party. [3] Cllr Davies stood down in 2015 after being elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Brecon and Radnorshire.
A by-election was subsequently held in Glasbury on 13 August 2015, resulting in the new Conservative candidate being beaten by the Liberal Democrat candidate, James Gibson-Watt. Gibson-Watt had previously represented Hay-on-Wye until 2004 and had been leader of the Liberal Democrats on the county council. [4]
Cllr Gibson-Watt successfully defended the seat at the May 2017 election. [5]

Roger Hugh Williams, CBE is a Liberal Democrat politician in the UK. He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency of Brecon and Radnorshire from 2001 until he lost his seat to Conservative candidate Christopher Davies at the 2015 general election.

Glasbury, also known as Glasbury-on-Wye, is a village and community in Powys, Wales. The village lies at an important crossing point on the River Wye, connecting the historic counties of Brecknockshire and Radnorshire, and is located just outside the Brecon Beacons National Park, north of the Black Mountains. The village is split between the communities of Glasbury and Gwernyfed. The nearest town is Hay-on-Wye, some 4 miles (6 km) to the north east. The nearest city is Hereford in England, some 25 miles (40 km) to the east. Glasbury is a popular location for river fishing, canoeing and kayaking. The population of Glasbury community in Radnorshire was 994, in 1841 it was 838.
Suzy Davies is a Welsh Conservative Party politician, who served as a Member of the Senedd for South Wales West from 2011 to 2021. She was elected first on the Welsh Conservatives party list for the region in the 2011 election.
William "Bill" Powell is a Welsh Liberal Democrats politician. He has been a Powys County Councillor since 2004 and was a member of the National Assembly of Wales between 2011 and 2016.
Christopher Paul Davies is a British Conservative Party politician. He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency of Brecon and Radnorshire after winning the seat in the 2015 general election. In March 2019, he pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud concerning Parliamentary expenses, and on 21 June 2019 he was removed from office by a recall petition. He stood again for the Conservatives in the ensuing by-election, but lost to the Liberal Democrat candidate Jane Dodds.

James Evans is Welsh Conservative Party politician who has served as the Member of the Senedd (MS) for Brecon and Radnorshire since the 2021 Senedd election. He won the seat from the Welsh Liberal Democrats, becoming the first-ever MS for this constituency from the Welsh Conservative Party.
