Global Supply Systems (GSS) was a British cargo airline based at London Stansted Airport. It provided dedicated freighters to airlines on a wet lease basis. [1] The company held a United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority Type A Operating Licence, it was permitted to carry passengers, cargo and mail on aircraft with 20 or more seats. [2]

The company changed its name [lower-alpha 1] to Global Supply Systems Limited on 31 January 2001, [3] and started operations on 29 June 2002. It began flying operations for British Airways World Cargo between London Stansted, Frankfurt and Hong Kong using a Boeing 747-400 freighter on dry lease from partner Atlas Air. The company was founded by Atlas Air and John Robert Porter and was majority British-owned (51%), with Atlas Air as minority shareholder (49%). [1]

In January 2014, British Airways World Cargo as the airline's main customer terminated its contract with Global Supply Systems, effective from 30 April. [4] GSS was unable to find a new customer and ceased operations later that year.

The company continued to dry-lease two Boeing 777F aircraft to an international cargo airline. [5]

Fleet

Global Supply Systems had operated three Boeing 747-400F which were later replaced by three Boeing 747-8F. [6]

The Boeing 747-400 is a wide-body airliner produced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes, an advanced variant of the initial Boeing 747. The "Advanced Series 300" was announced at the September 1984 Farnborough Airshow, targeting a 10% cost reduction with more efficient engines and 1,000 nmi (1,850 km) more range. Northwest Airlines (NWA) became the first customer with an order for 10 aircraft on October 22, 1985. The first 747-400 was rolled out on January 26, 1988, and made its maiden flight on April 29, 1988. Type certification was received on January 9, 1989, and it entered service with NWA on February 9, 1989.

Astral Aviation Kenyan cargo airline

Astral Aviation is a cargo airline based in Nairobi, Kenya. It was established in November 2000 and started operations in January 2001. Air Atlanta Europe was an airline based at London Gatwick Airport, England. It provided long term wet-lease contract flights for Excel Airways, Virgin Atlantic and others, as well as ad hoc flights tailored to customer requirements.

West Atlantic UK Limited, formerly Atlantic Airlines Ltd is a British cargo airline based at East Midlands Airport. It operates contract and ad hoc cargo flights worldwide, especially within Europe as part of the West Atlantic Group. The company's fleet is composed of Boeing 737 and ATR72 aircraft. The airline specialises in the transport of dangerous goods and radioactive products and other specialist aerial work, including oil spill response, dispersant spraying and icing trials. The company went into administration on Tuesday 2 December 2008.

Titan Airways

Titan Airways is a British charter airline founded in 1988 and based at London Stansted Airport. The carrier specialises in short notice ACMI and wet lease operations as well as ad-hoc passenger and cargo charter services to tour operators, corporations, governments and the sports and entertainment sectors. The company holds a United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority Type A Operating Licence, permitting it to carry passengers, cargo and mail on aircraft with 20 or more seats and currently operates a fleet of 14 aircraft.

Southern Air Inc. was a global air cargo carrier headquartered in Florence, Kentucky. It was the first airline to provide ACMI service for the wide-body Boeing 777F. On November 17, 2021, Southern Air ceased operations as it was merged into Atlas Air.

IAS Cargo Airlines Defunct British airline (1967-80)

International Aviation Services Limited, trading as IAS Cargo Airlines from 1975, is a defunct wholly privately owned, independent British airline that was based at London Gatwick Airport in the United Kingdom. It commenced operations in 1967 and went bankrupt in 1980, following a merger with London Stansted based Trans Meridian Air Cargo (TMAC) to form the short-lived British Cargo Airlines.

British Airways World Cargo formerly British Airways Cargo was a division of IAG Cargo, operating air cargo services under the British Airways brand. It was the twelfth-largest cargo airline in the world by total freight tonne-kilometres flown. Freight services were provided using the main British Airways fleet, as well as dedicated freighter aircraft operating under a wet lease agreement with Global Supply Systems.

Qantas Freight is a subsidiary company of Australia's largest airline Qantas, responsible for the air cargo operations of the Qantas group. It is the owner of freight airline Express Freighters Australia, freight forwarder Qantas Courier and trucking company Jets Transport Express. Qantas Freight was also a partner in two joint ventures with Australia Post: Australian airExpress, specialising in door-to-door package delivery, and StarTrack, a road freight company. In November 2012 Qantas Freight fully acquired Australia air Express and divested its shareholding in Star Track to Australia Post. Qantas Freight was also the owner of Asian-based freight forwarder DPEXWorldwide until that company was acquired by its competitor Toll Holdings in 2010.

British Airways operates a fleet of Airbus single aisle aircraft. It also operates a twin-aisle aircraft fleet of the Airbus A350-1000, Boeing 777 and 787 wide-body aircraft, with most of it powered by Rolls-Royce Trent engines.

CargoLogicAir, Ltd. (CLA) is a British cargo airline with its headquarters at London Heathrow Airport. After the Global Supply Systems' contract with British Airways World Cargo was terminated in January 2014, CLA effectively became the only British all-cargo airline, absorbing some of the Global Supply Systems staff. It received its Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) from the UK Civil Aviation Authority in December 2015 and commenced operations soon after. The airline's fleet of two Boeing 747 aircraft operates scheduled and chartered freight services on routes between the UK, Asia, Africa and Americas.

Aerotranscargo is a cargo airline based in Chișinău International Airport, Moldova.
