Wrestling at the 1980 Summer Olympics was represented by twenty events. They were split into two disciplines : Freestyle and Greco-Roman. All events were held in the Wrestling hall of the Sports Complex of the Central Sports Club of the Army between 20 and 31 July.
Sergei Alekseyevich Beloglazov is a Soviet and Russian former Olympic wrestler and World Champion. He trained at the Armed Forces sports society in Kaliningrad in 1976–77 and at Dynamo in Kiev since 1979. He was a two-time Olympic Champion in 1980 and 1988, a six-time World Champion and a World Silver medalist. He has a twin brother Anatoly Beloglazov, who was an Olympic Champion in 1980 and a three-time World Champion. He wrestled for coach Granit Taropin for the former Soviet Union. He is regarded by many to be one of the greatest freestyle wrestlers of all time.
Armen Nazaryan is an Armenian Greco-Roman wrestler who later represented Bulgaria. Nazaryan is a two-time Olympic Champion, a three-time World Champion, and a six-time European Champion. After Armenia regained independence in 1991, Nazaryan became the first Olympic gold medalist for the country. He was recognized by the FILA as the best wrestler of the year in 1998 and 2003. In 2007, Nazaryan was inducted as a member of the FILA Hall of Fame.
Dimitar Dimitrov Dobrev was a Greco-Roman wrestler from Bulgaria, where he spent most of his professional career. Dobrev was the Olympic champion in the middleweight division of Greco-Roman Wrestling at the 1960 Summer Olympics.
Ismail Abilov-Nizamoğlu is a Bulgarian freestyle wrestler and Olympic champion.
David Anthony Aspin is a wrestler from Waiuku, New Zealand. He competed in the freestyle wrestling discipline, where he was the 1974 Commonwealth Games champion and 1970 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist, in the middleweight category. He was also New Zealand's flag bearer at the opening ceremonies of the 1972 Summer Olympics, in Munich, and at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal. Aspin and Arthur Porritt are the only New Zealand Olympians to have carried the flag at two different Olympics.
Soslan Petrovich Andiyev was a Soviet heavyweight freestyle wrestler. He was an Olympic champion in 1976 and 1980, world champion in 1973, 1975, 1977 and 1978, European champion in 1974, 1975 and 1982, and Soviet champion in 1973–78 and 1980. He won the World Cup in 1976 and 1981, but missed the 1984 Olympics due to their boycott by the Soviet Union and retired the same year. After that he first worked as a national wrestling coach, but in 1989 returned to his native Ossetia to become a sports functionary. In 1990–98, he served as vice-president of the Russian Olympic Committee. In 2006 he was inducted into the FILA Wrestling Hall of Fame.
János Varga was a Hungarian wrestler and both an Olympic champion and world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling.
Levan Tediashvili was a Soviet and Georgian wrestler and Olympic champion in Freestyle wrestling in 1972 and 1976. He remained undefeated between 1971 and 1976. Besides freestyle wrestling, he was also a Soviet and world champion in sambo.
Arsen Suleymanovich Fadzaev is a former Soviet wrestler, World champion and Olympic champion in freestyle wrestling. He also ran as a candidate for SRZP in the 2022 North Ossetia–Alania parliamentary election.

Suren Nalbandyan is a former Soviet Armenian Greco-Roman wrestler. He is a five-time Soviet Champion, European Champion and Olympic Champion. He was awarded the Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR and USSR Badge of Honor titles in 1976.
Adolf Seger is a German former wrestler who competed in the 1972 Summer Olympics and in the 1976 Summer Olympics. In the Ringer veterans (Masters) he got ten times the world champion title.
Burke "Buck" Deadrich was an American wrestler, born in Oakland, California, who competed in the 1972 Summer Olympics.

Nelson Davidyan was a Soviet Armenian Greco-Roman wrestler and coach. He was an Olympic silver medalist and two-time World and European Champion.
Ottó Zsolt Aubéli is an amateur Hungarian freestyle wrestler, who played for the men's super heavyweight category. In 2005, he won two bronze medals at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, and at the European Championships in Varna, Bulgaria.
David Vála is an amateur Czech Greco-Roman wrestler, who competed in the men's heavyweight category. He won a silver medal in his division at the 2007 European Wrestling Championships in Moscow, Russia, losing out to Russian wrestler and former Olympic champion Khasan Baroyev. Vala is also a three-time Olympian, and a member of the wrestling team for PSK Olymp Praha under his personal coach Ervin Varga.
Gombyn Zorig is a Mongolian boxer. He competed in the men's light heavyweight event at the 1972 Summer Olympics. At the 1972 Summer Olympics, he lost in his first fight to Ahmed Mahmoud Aly of Egypt.
