The Governor of the Central Bank of Malaysia is the chief executive of Malaysia's central bank and the ex-officio chairperson of its Central Board of Directors. Malaysian ringgit currency notes, issued by the Central Bank of Malaysia (BNM), bear the governor's signature. Since its establishment in 1959, the BNM has been headed by 9 governors.

Section 15 (1) of the Central Bank of Malaysia Act 2009 states that the Governor is appointed by Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the Supreme Head of Malaysia whilst the Deputy Governor is appointed by the Finance Minister. Section 15 (4) of the Central Bank of Malaysia Act 2009 states that the term of office typically runs for 5 years for the Governor and 3 years for the Deputy Governor, both eligible for reappointment. The 9th and current Governor is Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus, who took over from Muhammad Ibrahim on 1 July 2018.

Dato’ Seri Dr. Awang Adek bin Hussin is a Malaysian politician and diplomat. He is the former Malaysian Ambassador to the United States. He was the Member of the Parliament of Malaysia for the Bachok constituency in Kelantan for one term from 2004 to 2008. Datuk Dr. Awang Adek bin Hussin is no longer an active politician he once was. He had relinquished all his party positions after the General Election in 2018. He remains active as an ordinary party member and is no longer active in party politics. Nor Shamsiah binti Mohd Yunus was the 9th Governor of the Central Bank of Malaysia from 2018 to 2023, replacing Tan Sri Muhammad bin Ibrahim. She served as Deputy Governor of Bank Negara from 2010 to 2013 and from 2013 to 2016. Later, she joined the International Monetary Fund as Assistant Director of the Financial and Capital Markets Division.

Ahmad Badri bin Mohamad Zahir is the former Secretary-General of the Treasury of Malaysia. As secretary-general, Ahmad Badri also serves as Chairman of the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN), Retirement Fund (Incorporated) (KWAP) and the Public Sector Home Financing Board (LPPSA). He also currently is the chairman of Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and sits on the board of directors of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), Central Bank of Malaysia (BNM), Tabung Haji and the Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) as an ex officio member. He also serves as a non-independent non-executive director at Tenaga Nasional.
