The Governor of the Central Bank of Malaysia is the chief executive of Malaysia's central bank and the ex-officio chairperson of its Central Board of Directors. Malaysian ringgit currency notes, issued by the Central Bank of Malaysia (BNM), bear the governor's signature. Since its establishment in 1959, the BNM has been headed by 9 governors.

Section 15 (1) of the Central Bank of Malaysia Act 2009 states that the Governor is appointed by Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the Supreme Head of Malaysia whilst the Deputy Governor is appointed by the Finance Minister. Section 15 (4) of the Central Bank of Malaysia Act 2009 states that the term of office typically runs for 5 years for the Governor and 3 years for the Deputy Governor, both eligible for reappointment. The 10th and current Governor is Shaik Abdul Rasheed Abdul Ghaffour, who took over from Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus on 1 July 2023.

Ungku Zeti Akhtar binti Ungku Abdul Aziz was the 7th Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, Malaysia's central bank. She served as Governor from 2000 to 2016, and was the first woman in the position and at 16 years, the longest to hold the position. Zeti was one of the members of the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) in Mahathir's second administration, a special advisory council advising the government on economic and financial matters during this transitional period.

Nor Shamsiah binti Mohd Yunus was the 9th Governor of the Central Bank of Malaysia from 2018 to 2023, replacing Tan Sri Muhammad bin Ibrahim. She served as Deputy Governor of Bank Negara from 2010 to 2013 and from 2013 to 2016. Later, she joined the International Monetary Fund as Assistant Director of the Financial and Capital Markets Division.

Ahmad Badri bin Mohd Zahir is the former Secretary-General of the Treasury of Malaysia. As secretary-general, Ahmad Badri also serves as Chairman of the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN), Retirement Fund (Incorporated) (KWAP) and the Public Sector Home Financing Board (LPPSA). He also currently is the chairman of Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and sits on the board of directors of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), Central Bank of Malaysia (BNM), Tabung Haji and the Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) as an ex officio member. He also serves as a non-independent non-executive director at Tenaga Nasional.

Shaik Abdul Rasheed bin Abdul Ghaffour is a Malaysian banker who was appointed as the Governor of the Central Bank of Malaysia (BNM) from 1 July 2023. He was previously the deputy governor of the central bank.
