The Great Britain women's national volleyball team is the team representing Great Britain in volleyball competitions. [1] The Great Britain Volleyball programme team was resumed[ clarification needed ] in 2006 following an agreement of the FIVB to permit the national teams of Scotland, Northern Ireland and England to compete together for the 2012 Summer Olympics and 2012 Summer Paralympics. After losing 0–3 to Russia, they got their first Olympic victory, beating Algeria 3–2, a team ranked 53 places above them.

Janine Sandell is a British volleyball player. She competed for Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Sandell was a member of the Great Britain team that won their first ever match in the modern Summer Olympics women's volleyball competition. She moved to Spain to play volleyball professionally in club CV Albacete and has played in several Spanish clubs since.

Courtney Lynn Thompson is an American former professional volleyball player who played as a setter for the United States women's national volleyball team. She won the 2005 national championship while playing for the University of Washington, and she set an NCAA record in career assists per game. Thompson won gold with the national team at the 2014 World Championship, silver at the 2012 London Summer Olympics, and bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The volleyball tournaments at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro was played between 6 and 21 August. 24 volleyball teams and 48 beach volleyball teams, total 386 athletes, participated in the tournament. The indoor volleyball competition took place at Ginásio do Maracanãzinho in Maracanã, and the beach volleyball tournament was held at Copacabana Beach, in the temporary Copacabana Stadium.

Anouer Taouerghi is a Tunisian male volleyball player. He is part of the Tunisia men's national volleyball team. Mehdi Ben Cheikh is a Tunisian male volleyball player. He is part of the Tunisia men's national volleyball team. He competed with the national team at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Great Britain. He played with E.S. Tunis in 2012 and competed at the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship.

The FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup is an international volleyball competition contested by the senior women's national teams of the members of Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), the sport's global governing body. Initially the tournament was played in the year following the Olympic Games, but since 1991 the World Cup has been awarded in the year preceding the Olympic Games. The current champion is China, which won its fifth title at the 2019 tournament.
