Greenhills Adventure Park was a theme park located near Victor Harbor, South Australia. [1] It was established in 1982, and officially opened in March 1983 by Gavin Keneally, South Australia Minister for Tourism.

History

Origin

Greenhills Adventure Park was founded by Margaret and Bill McKenzie, with Rosemary and Tom Builder, in 1982, and opened in 1983. [1] It was a ten-hectare (about 25 acre) plot of land with over 20 attractions. [3] To assist in maintain the park during its peak season, Meg Whibley was hired as Managing Director, along with three full time staff and 30 seasonal staff. [4]

Closure

In 2009, Margaret and Bill McKenzie sold the land to land developers Daniel McOmish and Dean Kyros, who wished to build 66 property allotments over the course of a four-stage development plan. [1] [5] The park continued to remain operational, as property, such as the overflow parking, was planned to be built on. [1] In mid-2015, it was announced that the park would close on 1 May 2016 due to interest in the first stages of development as well as increases in electricity and water bills. [4] The park sold discounted tickets to commemorate their last season. [1] On 25 June 2016 the park hosted an auction selling much of its equipment. [6]

Tractor-drawn trainA tractor-drawn train pulled customers around the park. The total ride time was approximately 15–20 minutes.
Dry slideThe park had a 50-meter dry slide, the largest dry slide on the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Half court tennisThe park had a half court tennis field, with rackets and balls supplied from their kiosk.
MazesA wooden maze was located in the park.
ArcheryThe park had an archery range, with bows and arrows supplied.
CanoesCanoes were supplied for guests to canoe down the Hindmarsh River. The guests were able to paddle to the ocean, which would take around three hours.
Par 3 golfA nine-hole golfing course, with fairways ranging from 60 to 90 meters in length, was available. It was par 3 golf. Balls and clubs were supplied.
Aqua bikesThe park had aqua bikes which could be ridden along a lake. Visible on the lake were the River Red Gums.

The park was sold to Funtime, Inc., in 1969 and was expanded over the years with additional rides and amenities. The City of Victor Harbor is a local government area of South Australia. It covers an area of 386.5 square kilometres (149.2 sq mi) along the coast, about 80 kilometres (50 mi) south of Adelaide, the capital of South Australia. The council is responsible for the town of Victor Harbor, which contains over 85% of its population, and the surrounding rural area to the north and west. The City of Victor Harbor had an estimated population of over 14,000 at the 2016 Census.

Oceanic Victor is an Australian privately owned company which runs marine tourism facilities on and adjacent to Granite Island, Encounter Bay, South Australia. The company's main attraction is a floating at-sea aquarium containing Southern blue fin tuna and other marine species. The facility is located within a Habitat Protection Zone of the Encounter Marine Park and opened to the public on 2 September 2017. Since 2019 it has been open intermittently while work has been undertaken on the causeway to Granite Island and owing to COVID19 restrictions in 2020. As of 2021, the attraction is in Port Lincoln where it is undergoing maintenance. It is expected to reopen in 2022 once work on the causeway is complete.

Hydro Adventures was an amusement park, waterpark and family entertainment center located in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and owned by national amusement park operator, United Parks. Hydro Adventures' Water Park operated from May through September, and the Dry Park was open year-round. According to the website, the park consisted of 7 water attractions and 8 dry attractions of varying “thrill levels.” Hydro Adventures was unable to open for the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and was soon put up for sale.
