A Republican,he was also the Chair of the House Judiciary Committee,which has jurisdiction over legislation affecting the federal courts,administrative agencies,and federal law enforcement entities. Goodlatte's district covered Roanoke and also included Lexington,Lynchburg,Harrisonburg,and Staunton.
