Joseph Patrick McNamara is an American politician. He represents the Virginia's 40th district,which includes the City of Salem,Craig County,and parts of Roanoke and Montgomery Counties. [2] He was sworn in on November 26,2018,after Greg Habeeb announced he would resign. [3]
McNamara is an accountant and the only licensed CPA in the Virginia House of Delegates. [4] Additionally,he owns an ice cream shop in Roanoke County,Virginia. [5]

Benjamin Lee Cline is an American lawyer and politician who has served as the U.S. representative for Virginia's 6th congressional district since 2019. A member of the Republican Party, he represented the 24th district in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2002 to 2018.

The 2017 Virginia gubernatorial election was held on November 7, 2017. Incumbent Democratic Governor Terry McAuliffe was unable to run for re-election, as the Constitution of Virginia prohibits the officeholder from serving consecutive terms; he later ran unsuccessfully for a second term in 2021.
The 2018 United States Senate election in Virginia took place on November 6, 2018, to elect a member of the United States Senate to represent the Commonwealth of Virginia, concurrently with other elections to the U.S. Senate, elections to the United States House of Representatives, and various state and local elections. Incumbent Democratic Senator Tim Kaine, who had been his party's unsuccessful nominee for vice president two years earlier, was re-elected to a second term in office, winning this seat by the largest margin since 1988. This was the first election since 1994 that anyone had been re-elected to this seat.

In a Republican firehouse primary, Rockbridge supervisor Ronnie Campbell won the Republican nomination by one vote. Christian Worth won the Democratic nomination. Campbell won the special election December 18., and held the seat for nearly four years until his death on December 13, 2022. Ellen Campbell was elected in a 2023 special election to succeed her husband.

The 2021 Virginia gubernatorial election was held on November 2, 2021, to elect the next governor of Virginia. The election was concurrent with other elections for Virginia state offices. Incumbent Democratic Governor Ralph Northam was ineligible to run for re-election, as the Constitution of Virginia prohibits governors from serving consecutive terms. Businessman Glenn Youngkin won the Republican nomination at the party's May 8 convention, which was held in 37 polling locations across the state, and was officially declared the nominee on May 10. The Democratic Party held its primary election on June 8, which former Governor Terry McAuliffe easily won.
Ronnie Ray Campbell was an American politician who served as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, first elected in a special election in 2018. Campbell represented the 24th district comprising Rockbridge and Bath Counties, parts of Amherst and Augusta Counties, and the independent cities of Lexington and Buena Vista.
The 2021 Virginia lieutenant gubernatorial election was held on November 2, 2021, to elect the next lieutenant governor of Virginia. Incumbent Democratic Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax was eligible to run for a second term, but instead unsuccessfully ran for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination. On November 3, Hala Ayala conceded the race, making Republican Winsome Sears the first black woman to be elected to the lieutenant governorship of Virginia or any statewide office, as well as the first woman elected lieutenant governor in Virginia's history. All 100 delegates were elected to two-year terms from single-member districts. Nomination primaries held through the Department of Elections were held June 20, 2023. Democrats gained 3 seats, winning back control with a 51–49 majority after having previously lost it in 2021.
The 2023 Virginia Senate election was held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, concurrently with elections for the Virginia House of Delegates, to elect senators to all 40 seats in the Senate of Virginia for the 163rd and 164th Virginia Assembly. Nomination primaries held through the Department of Elections were held June 20, 2023. These were the first elections held following redistricting as a result of the 2020 census. The Democrats retained control of the Senate.
