Patrick Alan Hope (born March 6,1972) is an American politician. Since 2010,he has served in the Virginia House of Delegates,representing the 47th district in Arlington County,outside Washington,D.C. Hope is a member of the Democratic Party. [1]
Hope was born in San Antonio. He attended St. Mary's University there,receiving a B.A. degree in 1993. He then moved to Washington to attend the Catholic University of America,where he received an M.A. in 1996 and a J.D. from the Columbus School of Law in 2001. [1]
As of May 2020 [update] ,Hope serves as the Chair of the Public Safety Committee and as a member of the Courts of Justice Committee and the Health,Welfare and Institutions Committee. [2]
On February 8,2019,after two women had publicly accused Democratic Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax of sexual assault,Hope announced that he would introduce articles of impeachment against Fairfax on February 11,three days later,if the latter did not resign by then. [3] Within days,he backed off the plan to begin impeachment proceedings,saying that he had received a lot of feedback that made it clear that more conversations needed to take place before moving forward. [4]
Hope won a five-way Democratic primary in June 2009 to replace retiring Delegate Al Eisenberg as the 47th district delegate. [5] The following November,he won the general election with almost 64% of the vote against two opponents. [6]

Adam Paul Ebbin is an American politician who is the senator from the 39th District of the Virginia Senate since January 2024. A member of the Democratic Party,he previously represented the 39th Senate District from 2012 to 2024 and served in the Virginia House of Delegates from the 49th District from 2004 to 2012.
John Chapman "Chap" Petersen is an American politician. A Democrat,he served in the Virginia House of Delegates 2002–06,was elected to the Virginia State Senate in November 2007,and was reelected in 2011. He represented the state's 34th district,made up of the city of Fairfax and large parts of Fairfax County. In June 2023,Petersen lost the Democratic primary for District 37 to Saddam Azlan Salim. Salim won the general election,and assumed office on January 10,2024.

Justin Edward Fairfax is an American lawyer and politician who served as the 41st lieutenant governor of Virginia from 2018 to 2022. A member of the Democratic Party,he is the second African-American elected statewide in Virginia,following Douglas Wilder. In 2019,he faced sexual assault allegations dating to 2000 and 2004,which he denied. In 2021,he was a Democratic candidate for Governor of Virginia. He finished fourth in the Democratic primary with 3.54% of the vote.

On November 3,Hala Ayala conceded the race,making Republican Winsome Sears the first black woman to be elected to the lieutenant governorship of Virginia or any statewide office,as well as the first woman elected lieutenant governor in Virginia's history. Sears was also the first Jamaican-American to become a lieutenant governor.
The 2023 Virginia House of Delegates election took place on November 7,2023,concurrently with elections for the Virginia Senate,to elect members of the 163rd Virginia General Assembly. All 100 delegates were elected to two-year terms from single-member districts. Nomination primaries held through the Department of Elections were held June 20,2023. Democrats gained 3 seats,winning back control with a 51–49 majority after having previously lost it in 2021.
