David Alan Reid (born January 14,1962) is an American politician and retired US Navy Reserve commander. Reid was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2017. He is a Democrat representing the 28th District,which includes much of eastern Loudoun County in Northern Virginia.
Reid grew up in Rockbridge County,Virginia,before moving to the United Methodist Children's Home in Richmond,Virginia in 1972. After six years,Reid and his youngest brother were adopted and moved to Tahlequah,Oklahoma,with a foster family. [1]
Reid earned a BA in political science from Northeastern Oklahoma State University in Tahlequah,Oklahoma. He also holds a master's diploma in strategic intelligence from the Joint Military Intelligence College located at the Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington,D.C. [ citation needed ]
Reid served 23 years in the US Navy Reserve,as a naval intelligence officer,where he retired as a commander (O-5) in 2011. While in the navy,Reid made two deployments to South Korea and one deployment to Iceland.[ citation needed ]
Reid ran for the Virginia House of Delegates in the 2017 elections and defeated incumbent Thomas (Tag) Greason by a margin of 17%. [2] Reid was unchallenged in the 2019 election. [3] Reid faced a challenger in 2021 and won by similar margins to 2017. He faced an opponent in his 2023 bid for reelection,and won by a larger margin than in 2017. Due to redistricting,Reid now represents the 28th district.
On November 14,2023,Reid announced his campaign for Virginia's 10th Congressional District. [4]
Reid also authored and published a memoir in April 2024, "Virginia Grit:From Poverty to Policymaker,Creating Opportunity for Everyone." [5]

District 32,in Loudoun County,has been represented by David Reid since 2018. According to the 2010 census,the thirty-second district has a population of 80,268 with 56,252 registered voters.
Virginia's 42nd House of Delegates district elects one of 100 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates,the lower house of the state's bicameral legislature. Under a redistricting plan effective for the 2023 Virginia House of Delegates election,the district number was reassigned from northern Virginia's Fairfax County to a new southwestern Virginia district formed from parts of the previous districts 12,7 and 8,including the independent city of Radford,Giles County,and parts of Montgomery and Pulaski counties. The old 12th District included Radford,Giles and different parts of Pulaski and Montgomery counties. Significantly,the new 42nd district no longer includes the Montgomery County town of Blacksburg,which had been home to previous Democrat delegates from the 12th,Joan Munford,Jim Shuler and Chris Hurst.

District 64,located in Isle of Wight County,Prince George County,Suffolk,Surry County,was represented by Republican Rick Morris from 2012 to 2018. Due to scandal,Morris did not seek re-election in Virginia's November 2017 elections. Based on the results of the election,the seat has been held by Republican Emily Brewer since January 2018. Emily Brewer defeated Democrat Michele Joyce in district 64 on November 5,2019 and won reelection on November 2,2021.

He defeated Republicans Eddie Whitlock and GayDonna Vandergriff in the 2017 and 2019 elections,respectively. In the 2023 state elections,VanValkenburg was elected over incumbent Siobhan Dunnavant in the newly redrawn 16th District. The race was considered highly competitive for control of the State Senate.
The 2023 Virginia Senate election was held on Tuesday,November 7,2023,concurrently with elections for the Virginia House of Delegates,to elect senators to all 40 seats in the Senate of Virginia for the 163rd and 164th Virginia Assembly. Nomination primaries held through the Department of Elections were held June 20,2023. These were the first elections held following redistricting as a result of the 2020 census.
