As of the census [4] of 2000, there were 945 people, 407 households, and 264 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 482.7 inhabitants per square mile (186.4/km2). There were 506 housing units at an average density of 258.5 per square mile (99.8/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.25% White, 0.74% Native American, 0.85% Asian, 0.11% from other races, and 1.06% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.21% of the population.
There were 407 households, out of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.7% were married couples living together, 14.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.9% were non-families. 29.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.83.
In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 23.9% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 25.6% from 25 to 44, 23.0% from 45 to 64, and 20.0% who were 65 years of age or older.
