HMS Royal George was a 120-gun first-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched on 22 September 1827 at Chatham Dockyard. [1]
In 1853 she was fitted with screw propulsion. [1] Boilers and engines were placed in space previously used for water tanks. Further space had to be given over to storing coal, which made the ship rather crowded.
In February 1856 Captain Henry Codrington was replaced by Captain Robinson. [2]
It was announced in 1864 that she would replace the Ajax as the Coast-guard ship at Devonport. [3]
On 27 October 1867, Royal George was driven ashore at Kingstown, County Dublin. She was refloated with assistance from RMS Ulster. [4] She was sold out of the service in 1875. [1]
HMS Albion was a 90-gun second-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy. Ordered in 1839, she was built at Plymouth Dockyard, launched on 6 September 1842, and completed on 23 January 1844. Albion was designed by Sir William Symonds, was the only ship of her class to ever serve as a sailing ship, and the last British two-decker to be completed and enter service without a steam engine. She was the name ship of a class of three second rates—the others being Aboukir and Exmouth.
HMS Ganges was an 84-gun second-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched on 10 November 1821 at Bombay Dockyard, constructed from teak. She was the last sailing ship of the Navy to serve as a flagship, and was the second ship to bear the name.
HMS Mars was a 74-gun third-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched on 25 October 1794 at Deptford Dockyard.
HMS Royal Oak was a 74-gun third-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, built by Jonas Shish at Deptford and launched in 1674. She was one of only three Royal Navy ships to be equipped with the Rupertinoe naval gun. Life aboard her when cruising in the Mediterranean Sea in 1679 is described in the diary of Henry Teonge.
HMS Ajax was a 74-gun third rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched on 2 May 1809 at Blackwall Yard.
The Duncan class of 101-gun two-decker steam line-of-battle ships are considered by Professor Andrew Lambert to have been the "final statement of the British design progress" for steam two-deckers. The class consisted of HMS Duncan and HMS Gibraltar. The Bulwark class had identical hulls. HMS Gibraltar was the last wooden steam line-of-battleship to commission as a private ship in the Royal Navy.
HMS Northumberland was a 74-gun third-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, built at the yards of Barnard, Deptford and launched on 2 February 1798. She carried Napoleon to his final exile on St Helena.
HMS Diadem was a 64-gun third rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched on 19 December 1782 at Chatham. She participated in the Battle of Cape St Vincent in 1797 under Captain George Henry Towry.
The Caledonia-class ships of the line were a class of nine 120-gun first rates, designed for the Royal Navy by Sir William Rule. A tenth ship was ordered on 29 October 1827 to the same design, but was launched in 1833 as Queen to a fresh design by Sir William Symonds.

After service in the Baltic Sea and the North America and West Indies Station, she was converted to a training ship and renamed HMS Conway, surviving in that role until 1953.

HMS Salisbury was a 50-gun fourth rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, one of eight such ships authorised by the Navy Board on 24 December 1695 to be newly built ; the others were the Hampshire, Dartmouth, Winchester, Worcester, Jersey, Carlisle and Tilbury. The contract for the Winchester was signed with shipbuilders Richard and James Herring in 1696, for the ship to be built in their yard at Baileys Hard on the Beaulieu River in Hampshire, England, and she was launched there on 18 April 1698.
HMS Dartmouth was a 50-gun fourth-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, one of eight such ships authorised by the Navy Board on 24 December 1695 to be newly built ; the others were the Hampshire, Winchester, Salisbury, Worcester, Jersey, Carlisle and Tilbury. The contract for the Dartmouth was signed in 1696 with shipbuilder James Parker, for the ship to be built in his site in Southampton, taking the name of the previous Dartmouth of 1693, and she was launched there on 3 March 1698.
HMS Exmouth was a 91-gun screw-propelled Albion-class second-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy.
HMS Sans Pareil was a 70-gun screw propelled ship of the line of the Royal Navy.
HMS Jackal was a Jackal-class second-class iron paddle gunvessel of the Royal Navy.
