Maulana Hamdullah Jan Dagai aka Dagai Baba Ji (born; 1909 - 12 January 2019) was a Pakistani Islamic scholar and politician. He was a student of Muhammad Zakariyya al-Kandhlawi and Hussain Ahmad Madani. He was born in 1909 in Dagai, a village in Swabi District. He studied at Darul Uloom Deoband and Mazahirul Uloom Saharanpur. He died on 12 January 2019, aged 110. [1] He was politically affiliated with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F). [2] [3]

Contents

He was a strong supporter of peace and dialogue, especially concerning the Taliban. He believed that dialogue and negotiation, not the use of force, would help restore peace in the country. [4]

Education

He received his early education from his father Allama Abdul Hakim and uncle Maulana Siddique. After that he studied at Darul Uloom Deoband for some time but spent the last three years of his student life in Mazahir Uloom Saharanpur and from there he completed his Hadith studies in 1947. Political career

He participated in the 1970 general elections on the ticket of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam and the 1988 general elections on the platform of the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad but was unsuccessful. [6]

Death and legacy

Maulana Hamdullah Jan was buried in his ancestral graveyard. Funeral prayers were attended by millions[ citation needed ] of his students, devotees, leaders of political parties, workers, and citizens. [8] [9] [10] [11]

Successors

Maulana Hamdullah's son, Ashfaqullah Khan, was made his political successor and superintendent of the madrassa, another son, Dr. Inamullah as deputy successor, the eldest son, Maulana Lutfullah Jan, as Nazim-e-Ala Darul Uloom Mazharul Uloom, while grandson Maulana Asadullah Kaleem was the religious successor. Dastaar Bandi of the successors was done by JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who arrived at his residence to offer condolences. Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan, provincial Ameer of JUI-F, Mufti Kifayatullah, Maulana Ata-ul-Haq Darwish, Sardar Hussain Babak of ANP, Senator and provincial Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, Maulana Aziz-ur-Rehman Hazarvi, Senator Maulana Ata-ur-Rehman, and other leaders were also present. Darul Uloom Haqqania or Jamia Dar al-Ulum Haqqania is an Islamic Seminary in the town of Akora Khattak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, northwestern Pakistan. The seminary propagates the Hanafi Deobandi school of Sunni Islam. It was founded by Maulana Abdul Haq along the lines of the Darul Uloom Deoband seminary in India, where he had taught. It has been dubbed the "University of Jihad" due to its methods and content of instruction, along with the future occupations of its alumni. A number of leading members of the Taliban, including past chief Akhtar Mansour, studied here.

Saleemullah Khan was a Pakistani Islamic scholar and former President of Wifaq ul Madaris Al-Arabia, Pakistan. His students include Muhammad Rafi Usmani and Taqi Usmani. He established Jamia Farooqia in Karachi in 1967.

Sheikh-ul-Hadees Dr. Syed Sher Ali Shah Madani was a Pashtun Islamic scholar.

Saeed Ahmad Palanpuri, was an Indian Sunni Muslim scholar and author who served as Shaykh al-Hadith and Principal of Darul Uloom Deoband. A number of his books are required readings in Darul Uloom Deoband.

Noor Alam Khalil Amini was an Indian Sunni Muslim scholar, academic and a litterateur of Arabic and Urdu. He was a senior professor of Arabic language and literature at the Darul Uloom Deoband. His book Falastin Fi Intezari Salahidin was subject of a doctoral study at Assam University and his book Miftahul Arabia is part of dars-e-nizami curricula in various madrasas.

Maulana Khawaja Khan Muhammad was a Pakistani Islamic scholar and Ameer of the Aalmi Majlis Tahaffuz Khatm-e-Nubuwwat.
