Conferences

The journal has organised conferences in partnership with the Fellowship of Postgraduate Medicine. In 2017, the journal, the Fellowship, and the Cardiovascular Research Trust held a conference in London on health policy to prevent heart disease. [5] In June 2019, the journal and the Fellowship organised a conference on European Cooperation in Healthcare at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. [6] For 2021, to mark the 10th Anniversary of the journal, Health Policy and Technology is organising in partnership with the Fellowship of Postgraduate Medicine an online Conference Series with panel discussions and peer-reviewed abstracts on Vaccines, Trusted Information and Fake News; Artificial Intelligence – Improving Health, from Smart Hospitals to Smart Homes; Equity and Outcomes, Ensuring Fair Access to Healthcare; Addressing Geopolitical Challenges to the Price of Medicines; and Climate and Health – why should policy-makers and the public be concerned? [7]

International Awards for Medical Writing in Social Media

In 2020, the journal launched annual international awards for trusted medical writing in social media. [8] [9]

A medical writer, also referred to as medical communicator, is a person who applies the principles of clinical research in developing clinical trial documents that effectively and clearly describe research results, product use, and other medical information. The medical writer develops any of the five modules of the Common Technical Document. The medical writers also ensure that their documents comply with regulatory, journal, or other guidelines in terms of content, format, and structure.

It is published by the Microbiology Society and the editors-in-chief are Norman Fry and Kalai Mathee. The journal publishes primary research articles, reviews, short communications, personal views, and editorials.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Fellowship of Postgraduate Medicine</span> British non-profit organisation

The Fellowship of Postgraduate Medicine (FPM) is a British non-profit organisation that was founded after World War I and pioneered the development of postgraduate educational programmes in all branches of medicine. It was founded in late 1918 as the Inter-allied Fellowship of Medicine with Sir William Osler as its president. In the autumn of 1919, Osler merged the IAFM with the Postgraduate Medical Association of which he had been the founding President since 1911. In October 1919, Osler was appointed President of the combined Fellowship of Medicine and the Postgraduate Medical Association and Sir William Osler became the first president of the new organisation. The fellowship is supported by national and international fellows with expertise in the practice of medicine, medical education, clinical research, and related disciplines. The office and meeting rooms of the fellowship are in Central London. It is governed by a council that meets quarterly.

The Postgraduate Medical Journal is a monthly peer-reviewed medical journal that was established in 1925 by the Fellowship of Postgraduate Medicine, of which it is the official journal. It is currently published on behalf of the Fellowship by the Oxford University Press.

The European Journal of Epidemiology is a monthly peer-reviewed medical journal covering the epidemiology of communicable and non-communicable diseases and their control. It is published by Springer Science+Business Media and the editor-in-chief is Albert Hofman. The journal was established in 1985 with Antiono Sanna as founding editor.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Health technology assessment</span> Field of policy analysis

Health technology assessment (HTA) is a multidisciplinary process that uses systematic and explicit methods to evaluate the properties and effects of a health technology. Health technology is conceived as any intervention at any point in its lifecycle. HTA aim is to inform "decision-making in order to promote an equitable, efficient, and high-quality health system".  It has other definitions including "a method of evidence synthesis that considers evidence regarding clinical effectiveness, safety, cost-effectiveness and, when broadly applied, includes social, ethical, and legal aspects of the use of health technologies. The precise balance of these inputs depends on the purpose of each individual HTA. A major use of HTAs is in informing reimbursement and coverage decisions by insurers and national health systems, in which case HTAs should include benefit-harm assessment and economic evaluation." And "a multidisciplinary process that summarises information about the medical, social, economic and ethical issues related to the use of a health technology in a systematic, transparent, unbiased, robust manner. Its aim is to inform the formulation of safe, effective, health policies that are patient focused and seek to achieve best value. Despite its policy goals, HTA must always be firmly rooted in research and the scientific method".

<i>Clinical and Translational Science</i> Academic journal

Clinical and Translational Science is a bimonthly peer-reviewed open-access medical journal covering translational medicine. It is published by Wiley-Blackwell and is an official journal of the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics. The journal was established in 2008 and the editor-in-chief is John A. Wagner.

Donald Robert James Singer was a British clinical pharmacologist who was the president of the Fellowship of Postgraduate Medicine.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Hippocrates Prize for Poetry and Medicine</span> Award

The Hippocrates Prize for Poetry and Medicine was founded in 2009 by Donald Singer and Michael Hulse. The founders "wished to draw together national and international perspectives on three major historical and contemporary themes uniting the disciplines of poetry and medicine: medicine as inspiration for the writings of poets; effects of poetic creativity on the experience of illness by patients, their families, friends, and carers; and poetry as therapy".

The American Journal of Preventive Medicine is a monthly peer-reviewed medical journal that publishes articles in the areas of prevention research, teaching, practice and policy. Original research is published on interventions aimed at the prevention of chronic and acute disease and the promotion of individual and community health, as well as health services research pertinent to prevention and public health. Papers also address educational initiatives aimed at improving the ability of health professionals to provide effective clinical prevention and public health services. Homeopathy is a peer-reviewed medical journal covering research, reviews, and debates on all aspects of homeopathy, a pseudoscientific form of alternative medicine. It is the official journal of the London-based Faculty of Homeopathy. The journal was established in 1911 as the British Homoeopathic Journal, resulting from a merger between the British Homoeopathic Review and the Journal of the British Homoeopathic Society. It uses its current name since 2001 and the editor-in-chief is Robert Mathie.

The British Journal of Hospital Medicine is a monthly peer-reviewed medical journal principally aimed at hospital-based healthcare professionals. It was established in 1966 as Hospital Medicine, changing name to British Journal of Hospital Medicine from 1968 to 1997. In 1998, it changed back to Hospital Medicine, and returned to British Journal of Hospital Medicine in 2006. It is currently published by Mark Allen Publishing. The editor-in-chief is Rob Miller.

The Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery is a monthly peer-reviewed medical journal covering surgery of the gastrointestinal tract. It was established in 1997 and originally published on behalf of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract by Elsevier, before transferring to Springer Science+Business Media in 2007. The editors-in-chief are Richard A. Hodin and Timothy M. Pawlik.

The Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport (JSAMS) is a monthly peer-reviewed medical journal covering sports science and sports medicine. It is published by Elsevier on behalf of Sports Medicine Australia and the editor-in-chief is Tim Meyer. It was established in 1984 as the Australian Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport, which was a merger of two earlier journals, the Australian Journal of Sports Medicine and Exercise Sciences and the Australian Journal of Sport Sciences.

Internal Medicine Journal is a monthly peer-reviewed medical journal covering internal medicine. It is published by Wiley and was established in 1952. The editor-in-chief is Jeff Szer (University of Melbourne.
