Her Tale of Shim Chong (Korean : 그녀의 심청, romanized: Geunyeoui Simcheong) is a Korean girls' love manhwa series written by Seri and illustrated by Biwan. The manhwa was serialized online via Comico from September, 2017 to March, 2019. The story is a reimagining of the classic Korean novel The Tale of Sim Chong .

Plot

Based on the classic Korean novel, The Tale of Sim Chong , the story follows two women of different social standings that have the same desire: to leave this world behind. Shim Chong is a young beggar who relies on the generosity of others to sustain herself and her blind father. The other is old Chancellor Jang's bride-to-be, sold off to him for the sake of her family. After Shim Chong rescues this new wife from the river their encounter ignites both love and secret intents.

Written by Seri and illustrated by Biwan, Her Tale of Shim Chong, was serialized online via Comico from September 12, 2017, to March 19, 2019. The series was later collected into seven print volumes by Wisdom House from August 24, 2018, to June 11, 2020.

The manhwa was published digitally in English by Pocket Comics and Tappytoon, being part of the first batch of titles available when Comico launched Pocket Comics in North America in 2021. [1] [2]

Audio Drama

On February 24, 2020, ACO began releasing an audio drama of Her Tale of Shim Chong through their GLC++ label. [3] [4]

Reception

In 2018 the series was awarded with the Today's Our Manhwa Award  [ ko ] by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. [5]

Francisca Santos, writing for We Got This Covered, included Her Tale of Shim Chong in their 15 best romance manhwa, remarking that "grabbing the reader's attention, the narrative and dialogue in this story are beautifully written, entangling the mysticism and historical contexts very poetically." [6] The Comic Book Resources similarly included the series in their "25 Top Manhwa You Need To Read". [7]

Unbalance ×2 is a Korean manhwa series written by Dall-Young Lim and illustrated by Soo-Hyun Lee. The series focuses on Jin-Ho Myung, a high school senior, and his romantic relationship with his homeroom teacher, Hae-Young Nah. The manhwa began biweekly serialization in Young Champ magazine in May 2005, and the first volume was released on June 15, 2005 by Daewon C.I. The series had a long hiatus following the release of the ninth volume, and resumed serialization in Young Champ from October 2010 to October 2011. The manhwa was serialized online via Lezhin Comics from April 2015 to December 2019 after winning Lezhin Comics first World Comic Contest. It was collected into six print volumes by Polar Fox on December 20, 2021.

The Love Doctor is a South Korean girls' love manhwa series written by Chamsae and illustrated by Bansook. The manhwa was serialized online via Lezhin Comics from April 23, 2016, to December 9, 2017. The story follows Jung Erae, a college student who is so clueless about dating she contacts a love doctor, Cha Yoon, to help her out. The manhwa was published digitally in English by Lezhin Comics two months after the series first began publication.
