Police ranks are a system of hierarchical relationships in police organisations. The rank system defines authority and responsibility in a police organisation,and affects the culture within the police force. Usually,uniforms denote the bearer's rank by particular insignia affixed to the uniforms.
The Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) is the primary law enforcement,investigative agency,and largest disciplined service under the Security Bureau of Hong Kong. The Royal Hong Kong Police Force (RHKPF) reverted to its former name after the transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to People's Republic of China in 1997.

The Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) provides policing services for the Regional Municipality of Waterloo in Ontario,Canada,which encompasses the cities of Waterloo,Kitchener,and Cambridge,as well as the townships of North Dumfries,Wellesley,Wilmot and Woolwich. The WRPS was established in 1973,to replace the individual police departments in the region. The cities of Kitchener,Waterloo and Galt;the towns of Preston,Hespeler,Elmira and New Hamburg;the Village of Bridgeport and Waterloo Township had their own respective police department. The townships of Woolwich,Wellesley,Wilmot and North Dumfries were under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Provincial Police. In 1991 the Waterloo Regional Police Force was renamed to their current name.
Superintendent (Supt) is a rank in the British police and in most English-speaking Commonwealth nations. In many Commonwealth countries,the full version is superintendent of police (SP). The rank is also used in most British Overseas Territories and in many former British colonies. In some countries,such as Italy,the rank of superintendent is a low rank.
The Police Tactical Unit is a unit within the Hong Kong Police Force which provides an immediate manpower reserve for use in large-scale emergencies. Auxiliary constables or reserve constables are unpaid citizens in Canada who volunteer their time and skills to a police force. They are uniformed,unarmed members who perform a similar role to their UK counterparts in the Special Constabulary. Their main function is to supplement the police force with additional manpower,with duties varying by appointment,geographical location and the needs of the specific detachment/department.

Station sergeant is a police rank senior to sergeant and junior to inspector in some British and Commonwealth police forces. The rank insignia is usually a sergeant's three chevrons surmounted by a crown,or sometimes four chevrons. The Metropolitan Police,which was the first force to introduce the rank,originally used four chevrons,but later changed to a crown over three chevrons,which was identical to the insignia worn by a staff sergeant in the British Army. A police officer holding the rank will be the senior sergeant in a police station,or in some cases the commander of a smaller sub-divisional police establishment.
Sub-inspector (SI),or sub-inspector of police or police sub-inspector (PSI),is a rank used extensively in South Asia:in the police forces of Bangladesh,Pakistan,India,and Sri Lanka,which are primarily based on the British model. It was formerly used in most British colonial police forces and in certain British police forces as well. The rank usually was in charge of a police substation or assisted an inspector.
