Asian Games Multi-sport event

The Asian Games, also known as Asiad, is a continental multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia. The Games were regulated by the Asian Games Federation (AGF) from the first Games in New Delhi, India, until the 1978 Games. Since the 1982 Games, they have been organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), after the breakup of the Asian Games Federation. The Games are recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and are described as the second largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games.

Hong Kong national football team

The Hong Kong national football team represents Hong Kong in international football and is controlled by the Hong Kong Football Association, the governing body for football in Hong Kong. Hong Kong was the first in Asia to hold the AFC Asian Cup in 1956 and won third place, and was also semi-finalist in 1964. Hong Kong has not qualified for another AFC tournament since 1968. Hong Kong had never qualified for the FIFA World Cup and its biggest celebrated victory was the 1986 FIFA World Cup qualification (AFC) where Hong Kong produced a 2–1 upset win against China which resulted in Hong Kong qualifying for the second rounds of qualification. Hong Kong has qualified for the EAFF E-1 Football Championship five times in 1995, 1998, 2003, 2010 and 2019.

Rahul Sharma was a former Hong Kong cricketer. A stylish batsman, he made his ODI debut as captain in the Asia Cup against Bangladesh aged 43. He had previously opened for Delhi in the 1986–87 Ranji Trophy match against Himachal Pradesh. His only other first-class appearance, an interval exceeding 18 years, was for Hong Kong against Nepal in 2005 in the ICC Inter-Continental Cup.

Sports in Hong Kong are a significant part of its culture. Due to British influence going as far back as the late 19th century, Hong Kong had an earlier introduction to Western athletics compared to other Asia regions.

Queen Elizabeth Stadium Arena in Wan Chai, Hong Kong

The Queen Elizabeth Stadium is an indoor sport facility on the Morrison Hill in Wan Chai, on the Hong Kong Island of Hong Kong. First opened in 1980, it has a 3,500-seat arena, gymnasia, squash and badminton courts, and a multi-purpose hall. It was built by the Urban Council, and is now managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Government.

The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) is a governing body of sports in Asia, currently with 45 member National Olympic Committees. The current president is Sheikh Fahad Al-Sabah. The oldest NOCs are from Japan and the Philippines, recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1911; whereas East Timor is the newest, joining in 2003.

The Hong Kong women's cricket team is the team that represents the Chinese special administrative region of Hong Kong in international women's cricket. In April 2018, the International Cricket Council (ICC) granted full Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) status to all its members. The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China is the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Hong Kong. As such it is a separate member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It is also a member of the Olympic Council of Asia. The current president is Timothy Fok. The headquarters building is called the Hong Kong Olympic House, located beside Hong Kong Stadium.

The Hong Kong Olympic Football Team represents Hong Kong in international football competitions in the Olympic Games, the Asian Games, the East Asian Games, as well as any other under-23 international football tournaments. It is committed by the Hong Kong Football Association.

The Hong Kong Fed Cup team represents Hong Kong in Fed Cup tennis competition and are governed by the Hong Kong Tennis Association. They will compete in the Asia/Oceania Zone Group II in 2016.

The archery events at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane were held from 2 October to 5 October 1982 at the Murarrie Recreation Reserve. There were two events, one for men and one for women, both using recurve bows. The final standings were decided by an aggregate score after four days of shooting. The women's champion, New Zealand's Neroli Fairhall, became the first paraplegic athlete to win a Commonwealth gold medal.

The 2006 FESPIC Games, officially known as the 9th and Final FESPIC Games, was an Asia-Pacific disabled multi-sport event held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 25 November to 1 December 2006.

Hong Kong at the 2018 Asian Games Sporting event delegation

Hong Kong competed at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, from 18 August to 2 September 2018. Hong Kong made its debut at the Asian Games in 1954 Manila, and the best achievement for the territory was in 2010 Asian Games held in neighboring Guangzhou, finishing with 8 gold, 15 silver and 17 bronze medals totaling 40 medals. At the previous edition in held 4 years later in Incheon, the total number of medals increased to 42, but the number of gold medals fell to 6, In Indonesia the performance of local athletes was satisfactory, improving the results obtained in 2010 and 2014 with 46 medals achieving the best results at the games.

Jacqueline Wing Ying Siu is a dressage rider from Hong Kong. She became the first equestrian athlete from Hong Kong who won a gold medal during the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta.
