Hong Kong athletes have improved in worldwide rankings. As of 2010, there are 32 Hong Kong athletes from seven sports ranking in world's Top 20, 29 athletes in six sports in Asia top 10 ranking. Moreover, Hong Kong is equally impressive performance of athletes with disabilities in 2009, having won four world championships and two Asian Champions.

The Asian Handball Federation (AHF) is the governing body of handball and beach handball in Asia. It has 44 member countries, mostly located on the Asian continent, but excludes the transcontinental countries with territory in both Europe and Asia – Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russian Federation and Turkey – which are instead members of European Handball Federation (EHF). Three other states located along the western fringe of Asia – Cyprus, Armenia and Israel – are also EHF members. 2010–11 Hong Kong Senior Challenge Shield, officially named as HKFA Canbo Senior Shield due to the competition's sponsorship by Guangdong Canbo Electrical, is the 109th season of one of the Asian oldest football knockout competition, Hong Kong Senior Challenge Shield. It was a knockout competition for all the teams of Hong Kong First Division League. The winner Citizen has guaranteed a place in the 2012 AFC Cup.

2017 Asian Womens Junior Handball Championship

The 2017 Asian Women's Junior Handball Championship was the 14th edition of the championship organised by the Handball Association of Hong Kong China under the auspices of the Asian Handball Federation. It was held in Tsim Sha Tsui from 15 to 23 July 2017. It was played in under-19 years category. It was the first time that Hong Kong staged the competition. It also acts as qualification tournament for the IHF Women's Junior World Handball Championship. Top three teams i.e. South Korea, China and Japan qualified for the 2018 Women's Junior World Handball Championship to be held in Hungary.

Hong Kong at the 2018 Asian Games

Hong Kong competed at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, from 18 August to 2 September 2018. Hong Kong made its debut at the Asian Games in 1954 Manila, and the best achievement is in the 2010 Guangzhou, with the acquisition of 8 gold, 15 silver and 17 bronze medals. At the previous edition in Incheon, Hong Kong wrapped up its campaign with 42 medals in all - six gold, 12 silver and 24 bronze.
