Commonwealth Games appearances (overview)

Hong Kong competed at the Commonwealth and British Empire Games as a British colony or dependent territory from 1934 to 1994. The abbreviation for Hong Kong was HKG. In 1997, the United Kingdom handed Hong Kong over to the People's Republic of China, meaning it could no longer participate.

Swimming at the 2011 Island Games was held from 27–30 June 2011 at the Medina Leisure Centre. The events are held in a long course pool.

Swimming will be competed as a medal sport in the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games in the Isle of Man from September 9 to 11, 2011 in the National Sports Centre. Each Commonwealth Games Association can send up to two athletes per event, including one relay team. In the Games, age limits set by the Fédération Internationale de Natation for world Junior competitions will be followed, according to which the age limit for boys is set to 15–18 years and for girls its 14–17 years of age.
All swimming events are done in short course meters.

Swimming, for the 2013 Island Games, took place at the National Sports Center in Devonshire Parish, Bermuda. Competition took place from 15 to 18 July 2013. The events are held in a short course pool.

Swimming at the 2013 Canada Summer Games was in Sherbrooke, Quebec at the Universite de Sherbrooke for diving and swimming. It was held from the 4 to 17 August. There were 70 events of swimming.

The swimming competition at the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games was held in Veracruz, Mexico.

Swimming, for the 2015 Island Games, took place at the Les Quennevais Sports Centre and Playing Fields in Saint Brélade, Jersey. Competition took place from 29 to 2 July 2015. The events were held in a short course pool.

The 10th Asian Swimming Championships were held 14–20 November 2016 in Tokyo, Japan.

The 2016 IPC Swimming European Championships was an international swimming competition. It was held in Funchal, Madeira running from 30 April to 7 May. Around 450 athletes from 50 different countries attended the competition. This was the last major swimming tournament for disabled athletes prior to the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio, and acted as a qualifying event for the Rio Games. To increase the possibility of qualification for top swimmers, the championships was made an Open tournament allowing competitors from countries outside Europe to compete.

Tang Wai-lok is a Hong Kong Paralympic swimmer, he classifies as a class S14 Paraswimmer.
