The Honiara Hotel is a 56-room hotel located in Chinatown in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
The hotel opened with an evening event on Sunday 1 June 1969. Around 400 guests attended the event, including Solomon Islands politician Tommy Chan's father Chan Wing.[ clarification needed ]
During the April and May riots of 2006 in Honiara, Sir Tommy Chan (owner of the Honiara Hotel and a naturalized citizen of the Solomon Islands), the hotel, and his son's shop were targeted. However, they escaped damage and destruction due to support from local islanders, the Christian brotherhood, and the police. [1]

The Guadalcanal American Memorial is a World War II monument on Guadalcanal in Solomon Islands. Dedicated on August 7, 1992, it was established as a tribute to the Americans and their allies who lost their lives during the Guadalcanal Campaign from 7 August 1942 to 9 February 1943. The capital city of Honiara is to its north. To mark the 50th anniversary of the Red Beach landings, the U.S. War Memorial was dedicated on 7 August 1992. An account of this is also inscribed on red marble tablets inside the monument compound. The memorial was a joint effort of the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) and the Guadalcanal-Solomon Islands Memorial Commission, and was at the initiative of Robert F Reynolds, Chief of Valors Tours Ltd. The memorial is maintained by the ABMC. Every year on 7 August, a commemorative ceremony is held to mark the first day of the battle. Another monument, erected by the Japanese on Mount Austen, is a tribute to the Japanese who lost their lives.
The Solomon Islands national rugby league team represents Solomon Islands in the sport of rugby league football. They are, in fact, planning a top-level tournament in 2010–11, after the capital of Honiara hosts an inter-city exhibition league, the Honiara Rugby League; expected in August 2009 but now it seems early 2010 will be the most convenient point for when it will be held after an uphold in the delivery of the participating teams jerseys caused delays. They are an unaffiliated nation and were recognised by the RLIF as having official observer status in early 2009. Vuhokesa is in the Honiara City Council ward of Vavaea. and is East of Point Cruz and West of Lord Howe Settlement. The Vuhokesa border is the West bank of the Mataniko River which runs into Kua Bay.
The Honiara Botanic Gardens are located in Rove, Honiara, Solomon Islands. They are about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) west of the main center off the Tandai Highway on Garden Drive. Garden Drive meanders around the prison complex and is just past the Solomon Islands Broadcasting buildings.
