William Howard White is an American businessman and politician who was the 60th Mayor of Houston from 2004 to 2010. He was the Democratic nominee for Governor of Texas in the 2010 election, in which he lost to incumbent Republican Rick Perry. Before serving as Mayor, White was a lawyer and businessman, and served as U.S. Deputy Secretary of Energy under President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 1995. White is on the membership roster of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
The politics of Houston in the U.S. state of Texas are complex and constantly shifting in part owing to the fact that the city is one of the fastest growing major cities in the United States and that it is the largest without zoning laws. Houston was founded in 1836 and incorporated in 1837. The city is the county seat of Harris County. A portion of southwest Houston extends into Fort Bend County and a small portion in the northeast extends into Montgomery County.

Leticia R. San Miguel Van de Putte (born December 6, 1954) is an American politician from San Antonio, Texas. She represented the 26th District in the Texas Senate from 1999-2015. From 1991 to 1999, Van de Putte was a member of the Texas House of Representatives. In 2014, she was the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor but lost the general election, 58-38 percent, to her Republican senatorial colleague, Dan Patrick of Houston. Following that defeat, she then resigned from the Texas Senate to run for mayor of San Antonio, which she narrowly lost to Ivy Taylor, 52-48 percent.
Jaime Lynn Herrera Beutler is an American politician who is the U.S. Representative for Washington's 3rd congressional district. A Republican, Herrera Beutler was appointed to the Washington House of Representatives in 2007 and elected to that body in 2008. In 2010, she was elected to represent Washington's 3rd congressional district in the U.S. Congress. Herrera Beutler has since been re-elected four times. She gained national attention after her daughter was born with Potter's Syndrome.
The 2012 United States House of Representatives elections in Washington were held on Tuesday, 6 November 2012, to elect the ten U.S. Representatives from the state, one from each of the state's ten congressional districts, a gain of one seat following the 2010 United States Census. The elections coincided with the elections of other federal and state offices, including a quadrennial presidential election, and a U.S. Senate election. The state certified the returns on 6 December 2012. Primary elections were held on 7 August 2012.
The 2011 San Francisco mayoral election was held on Tuesday, November 8, 2011, to elect the mayor of San Francisco. The incumbent, Ed Lee, succeeded in his bid to become the first elected Asian-American mayor of a major American city.
The 2012 United States House of Representatives elections in Texas were held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 to elect the 36 U.S. Representatives from the state of Texas—an increase of four seats in reapportionment following the 2010 United States Census. The elections coincided with the elections of other federal and state offices, including a quadrennial presidential election and an election for the U.S. Senate. The primary election had been scheduled to be held on March 6, 2012, with a runoff election on May 22; because of problems arising from redistricting, the primary was postponed to May 29, and the run-off to July 31.
Matilde "Matti" Herrera Bower is a Cuban-American politician and retired dental assistant. Bower has been elected to three two-year terms as the Mayor of Miami Beach, Florida, beginning in 2007. Most recently, because of a loophole in the term limits rule, Bower was able to run for an open commission seat, but lost by a considerably large margin in the run-off race against retired banker, Joy Malakoff .Bower won re-election to her third and final term as mayor on November 1, 2011. She is the first woman, as well as the first Hispanic, to serve as Mayor of Miami Beach. She is a Democrat, though Miami Beach elections are nonpartisan.
The Dallas mayoral election of 2007 took place on May 12, 2007, to elect the successor to incumbent Mayor Laura Miller. Miller decided not to run for a second full term. The race is officially nonpartisan. After no candidate received a majority of the votes, the top two candidates - Tom Leppert and Ed Oakley - faced each other in a runoff election on June 16, 2007 in which Leppert prevailed.
The 2014 general election was held in the U.S. state of Texas on November 4, 2014. All of Texas' executive officers were up for election as well as a United States Senate seat, and all of Texas' thirty-six seats in the United States House of Representatives. Primary elections were held on March 4, 2014. Primary runoffs, required if no candidate wins a majority of the vote, were held on May 27, 2014. Elections were also held for the Texas legislature and proposition 1, seeking funds for Texas highways.
The 2014 San Jose mayoral election was held on June 3, 2014 to elect the Mayor of San Jose, California. Councilmember Sam Liccardo defeated Santa Clara County Supervisor Dave Cortese in a runoff on November 4, 2014.
Houston has a large and diverse LGBT population and is home to the 4th largest gay pride parade in the nation.
The 2015 Houston mayoral election was decided by a runoff that took place on December 12, 2015, to elect the Mayor of Houston, Texas. As no candidate won a majority of the vote during the general election on November 3, 2015, the run off was held between the top two finishers, Sylvester Turner, who received 32% of the vote, and Bill King, who received 25%. In the run-off, Turner edged King, 51% to 49%, to become the 62nd Mayor of Houston.
The 2015 San Francisco mayoral election took place on November 3, 2015, to elect the Mayor of San Francisco, California. Incumbent Mayor Ed Lee won re-election to a second term in office.
The Phoenix mayoral special election, 2018–2019 was held to elect the new Mayor of Phoenix, Arizona. The election was officially nonpartisan; candidates ran on the same ballot. In the initial round of the election, since no candidate reached 50 percent plus one vote, a runoff election was held between the top two finishers.
The 2019 Houston mayoral election will take place in November 2019 to elect the Mayor of Houston. The election will be a nonpartisan blanket primary, with a runoff election in December between the top two finishers if no candidate receives a majority of the vote.
