A smartphone, often called simply a phone, is a mobile device that combines the functionality of a traditional mobile phone with advanced computing capabilities. It typically has a touchscreen interface, allowing users to access a wide range of applications and services, such as web browsing, email, and social media, as well as multimedia playback and streaming. Smartphones have built-in cameras, GPS navigation, and support for various communication methods, including voice calls, text messaging, and internet-based messaging apps.
A mobile operating system is an operating system used for smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, smartglasses, or other non-laptop personal mobile computing devices. While computers such as typical/mobile laptops are "mobile", the operating systems used on them are usually not considered mobile, as they were originally designed for desktop computers that historically did not have or need specific mobile features. This "fine line" distinguishing mobile and other forms has become blurred in recent years, due to the fact that newer devices have become smaller and more mobile, unlike the hardware of the past. Key notabilities blurring this line are the introduction of tablet computers, light laptops, and the hybridization of the two in 2-in-1 PCs.
The Samsung Galaxy S is a touchscreen-enabled, slate-format Android smartphone developed and marketed by Samsung Electronics; it is the first smartphone of the Samsung Galaxy S series. It is the first device of the third Android smartphone series produced by Samsung. It was announced to the press in March 2010 and released for sale in June 2010. After the release of Android 2.2 "Froyo" for the Galaxy S, Samsung released a successor to the device called S scLCD or SL and ceased production of the original I9000 model due to shortage of Super AMOLED displays.
Huawei Ascend is the first phone in the Huawei Ascend series. It ran Android OS 2.1 by default. It has been released in the United States for Cricket Wireless and MetroPCS unsubsidized. As of the summer of 2012, the model is also available on the market in Europe.
The LG Optimus One is an entry-level series of touch-screen smartphones manufactured by LG Electronics, Inc. It was released running the Android 2.2 Froyo, and later LG released software to upgrade it to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Although the basic physical form factor of each variant is the same, the variants have differences in hard button shape and layout, the form of the metal side bezel and the user interfaces added by LG or various carriers. Versions of the Optimus One exist that operate on various frequency bands and either GSM or CDMA-based network protocols. They may also feature one or more variations in hardware, such as a faster processor, the addition of a physical keyboard, a modem with higher theoretical speeds, or a better digital camera.
The Samsung Galaxy S 4G LTE also known as the Droid Charge (Verizon), Galaxy S Aviator and Galaxy S Lightray 4G, was an Android smartphone manufactured by Samsung. It has a 1 GHz "Hummingbird" processor, front and rear cameras, and CDMA and 4G LTE radios. It was announced at CES 2011 under the name Samsung Galaxy S 4G LTE device.
The Motorola Triumph is an Android powered smartphone available in the United States exclusively through Virgin Mobile USA. The device is similar to Huawei's U9000 Ideos X6 model sold internationally. The Triumph is the first Motorola-branded device sold by Virgin Mobile USA. Sprint Nextel and Motorola announced the Triumph at a joint press event held in New York City on June 9, 2011.
The HTC Ruby is a smartphone developed by the HTC Corporation. It was released by T-Mobile in the United States on 10 October 2011. It was first released in Canada by Telus on 4 November 2011. Subsequently, other Canadian carriers such as Mobilicity and Wind Mobile released this phone on December 1, 2011 and December 2 ,2011, respectively. Marketed at the time as being equipped “with the most advanced camera of any smartphone”, the device has an 8-megapixel camera, a 1080p HD video recorder, a backside illuminated sensor, and a dual LED flash. The Amaze 4G features a Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 1.5 Gdual-corporate processor, a 4.3-inch QHD LCD multi-touch display, and 1 GB of RAM. It was released with version 2.3.4 of the Android operating system. Starting from 21 May 2012, some HTC Amaze devices were upgradeable to Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Lenovo smartphones are marketed as the "LePhone" in mainland China and the "IdeaPhone" overseas are smartphones designed and manufactured by the Motorola Mobility, ZUK Mobile and Medion, divisions of Lenovo. On April 27, 2017, Lenovo announced that the ZUK brand would cease operations. In 2015, Lenovo subsumed its own smartphone division into the acquired Motorola brand.
The Huawei M835 is an Android smartphone manufactured by Huawei and sold by MetroPCS. It was also known as C8500 or C8511.
Honor Device Co., Ltd., commonly known as HONOR, is a Chinese consumer electronics company majority-owned by Shenzhen Zhixin New Information Technology Co. Ltd. It was formerly a subsidiary of Huawei, who sold the brand in November 2020. Honor develops smartphones, tablet computers, wearables and mobile device softwares.
The Huawei Ascend P2 is a smartphone manufactured by Huawei. It was released in 2013. It is claimed to be the world's fastest smartphone. China's Huawei claimed that this device is the fastest in its own niche. According to the company it would use LTE category 4 to achieve network speeds up to 150 Mbit/s. It comes with a 4.7-inch high-definition screen with a powerful 1.5 GHz quad-core processor. It is sharp-cornered and its body is thinner than a pencil at 8.4 mm. Huawei announced that the Ascend P2 Android smartphone would launch in UK in June, 2013. It is available worldwide during July–September, i.e. the third quarter of 2013.
Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G is an Android smartphone manufactured by Huawei as part of the Huawei Mate series. A successor to the original Huawei Ascend Mate phablet unveiled in 2013, it has a revised design with a thinner build than its predecessor, adds support for LTE, and the ability to charge other USB devices with its own battery.
Nexus 6P is an Android smartphone developed and marketed by Google and manufactured by Huawei. It succeeded the Nexus 6 as the flagship device of the Nexus line of Android devices by Google and was the final Nexus before Google switched to the Pixel lineup. Officially unveiled on 29 September 2015 along with the Nexus 5X at the Google Nexus 2015 press event held in San Francisco, it was made available for pre-order on the same day in United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, and Japan.
HMD Global is a Finnish independent mobile phone manufacturer. The company is owned by the Luxembourgish holding company Smart Connect GL. The company is made up of the mobile phone business that the Nokia Corporation sold to Microsoft in 2014, then bought back in 2016. HMD began marketing Nokia-branded smartphones and feature phones on 1 December 2016. The company has exclusive rights to the Nokia brand for mobile phones through a licensing agreement. The HMD brand was initially only used for corporate purposes and does not appear in advertising, whereas the name "Nokia Mobile" is used on social media. In January 2024, HMD rebranded to 'Human Mobile Devices' and will use its branding on future devices alongside that of Nokia.
The LG K10 is a mid-range Android smartphone developed by LG Electronics and released in 2016. It is considered one of the top 10 budget phones of 2016 by Consumer Electronics Show. A successor to the phone of the same name, with a fingerprint sensor and a built-in panic alarm for South Asian regions, was released the following year.
The Huawei Nova and Huawei Nova Plus are mid-range smartphones manufactured by Huawei. They were announced and released at the Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (IFA) on Sept. 1, 2016.
Huawei Mate, formally Huawei Ascend Mate, is a series of high-end HarmonyOS-powered smartphones produced by Huawei, and is one of their flagship products along with the Pura series.
The Huawei Mate 10, Huawei Mate 10 Pro and Huawei Mate 10 Lite are Android smartphones designed and marketed by Huawei as part of the Huawei Mate series. There is also a Mate 10 Porsche design, which has 256 GB of storage but is otherwise identical to the Mate 10 Pro. They were first released on 16 October 2017. Versus the predecessor Mate 9, the Mate 10 pro flagship phone has a faster processor with an integrated neural processing unit, a slightly larger OLED screen (6.0") with a taller 18:9 aspect ratio, a significantly longer battery life and a glass back construction. Chinese and international models are available in dual SIM configuration. It comes with Android 8 and a newer version of Huawei's EMUI interface. All Mate 10 models are unlocked and GSM only. Huawei phones, including the Mate series, are not sold or financed through U.S. carriers due to pressure from U.S. intelligence agencies, though they are available from independent and online retailers.
The Huawei Pura series is a line of high-end and medium-range smartphones produced by Huawei, based on its proprietary HarmonyOS mobile operating system. The P series was formerly marketed as part of Huawei's larger Ascend brand, and some models were called P smart.
