Filipino singer and actor Regine Velasquez has released seventeen studio albums, nine soundtrack albums, one live album, ten compilation albums, six greatest hits albums, five extended plays, seventy-eight singles and sixteen promotional singles. In 1984, she won the television competition Ang Bagong Kampeon and OctoArts International signed her to a record deal. She released her first single "Love Me Again" in 1986, under her nickname Chona Velasquez, which was commercially unsuccessful. After Velasquez signed with VIVA Records in 1987, she released her self-titled debut album, that spawned three singles—"Kung Maibabalik Ko Lang", "Urong Sulong" and "Isang Lahi". In December 1989, she represented the Philippines at the Asia-Pacific Singing Contest performing the songs "You'll Never Walk Alone" and "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going", which later won her the competition. Filipino entertainer Regine Velasquez has appeared in motion pictures and television programs. She made her screen debut with a minor role in the 1988 comedy film The Untouchable Family. It consists various covers of the past millennium's contemporary hits from the 1980s such as Jeffrey Osborne's "On the Wings of Love" to the 1990s such as Aerosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing". The album was produced by Velasquez and certified platinum in two weeks after its release with 40,000 units sold. It was certified 12x platinum by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (PARI) but was never awarded by VIVA Records. R2K is Velasquez's most successful album both commercially and critically. It is the best-selling album by a female artist in Philippine history and stayed in record charts for a year.

The album was released on November 21, 2010 by Universal Records, which was her second full-length studio album under Universal after Low Key in 2008. The two-disc album contains both pop and mid-tempo sounds, as well as some softer and more contemporary melodies. The first disc contains new Original Pilipino Music (OPM) materials while the second disc contains cover songs from various artists. This two-disc album also consists of two packaging editions, the "colored one" and the "black & white edition", with each containing collector's item photo cards and the CDs. The photos used were taken by photographer Mark Nicdao. The album debuted at number one spot and was certified Gold Award after two weeks upon released. Fantasy was nominated at the 24th Philippine Awit Awards for Album Of The Year and Best Performance By A Female Recording Artist for the song You Don’t Know.
