Jesse Clyde "J. C." Nichols was an American developer of commercial and residential real estate in Kansas City,Missouri. Born in Olathe,Kansas,and a student at the University of Kansas and Harvard University,his most notable developments are the Country Club District and Country Club Plaza in Kansas City,which influenced suburban developments in other parts of the United States. He served leadership roles in local and national real estate organizations. Through these organizations,his ideas about real estate and planning helped to shape methods for racist and anti-Semitic restrictive covenants and zoning. His legacy has come under increasing scrutiny for these covenants,which prohibited Blacks,Jews,and other minorities from living in these neighborhoods.
Crown Center is a shopping center and neighborhood located near Downtown Kansas City,Missouri between Gillham Road and Main Street to the east and west,and between OK/E 22nd St and E 27th St to the north and south. The shopping center is anchored by Halls,a department store which is owned and operated by Hallmark Cards. The Paseo is a major north–south parkway in Kansas City,Missouri. As the city's first major boulevard,it runs approximately 10 miles (16 km) through the center of the city:from Cliff Drive and Lexington Avenue on the bluffs above the Missouri River in the Pendleton Heights historic neighborhood,to 85th Street and Woodland Avenue. Gillham Road is a major north/south main street that runs in Kansas City,Missouri from the intersection of 22nd Street at Oak Street to Harrison Road between 45th and 46th Streets. Linwood begins at Broadway Boulevard in the Valentine and Old Hyde Park neighborhoods and travels 3.8 miles east through Midtown to Van Brunt Boulevard near Interstate 70 in the Kansas City East Side. For much of its length,it creates a high-density corridor with 31st Street,another major street running parallel one block north. Prospect Avenue is one of the major north-south streets in Kansas City,Missouri and the Kansas City metropolitan area. It begins in the north at E Reservoir Drive in the Pendleton Heights neighborhood of the Historic Northeast and stretches south for 10.5 miles to its southern terminus at Blue River Road. It runs closely parallel to U.S. Route 71 from Swope Parkway to 75th Street.
Troost Avenue is one of the major streets in Kansas City,Missouri and the Kansas City metropolitan area. Its northern terminus is at 4th Street and its southern terminus Bannister Road,totaling 10.7 miles (17.2 km). It is named after Kansas City's first resident physician,Benoist Troost.
