Hypomelina is a subtribe of darkling beetles in the family Tenebrionidae. There are about 9 genera and more than 40 described species in Hypomelina, found mainly in southern Africa. The majority of species were described from the Namibian coast, and only the genus Bombocnodulus is found as far north as central Africa. [1] [2] [3]
These nine genera belong to the subtribe Hypomelina:
Alleculinae is a subfamily of comb-clawed beetles belonging to the family Tenebrionidae. These beetles are characterized by an oval body, threadlike antennae, relatively long legs and tarsi quite elongated. Their most striking feature, however, are the combed claws of the hind tarsi, that show fine teeth.
The Sepidiini is a tribe of ground-dwelling darkling beetles (Tenebrionidae), that occurs across Africa, the Mediterranean Basin, the Arabian Peninsula and Mesopotamia. It is composed of many hundreds of species. The larvae of some species are known to damage crops.
Diaperinae is a subfamily of darkling beetles in the family Tenebrionidae. There are more than 120 genera in Diaperinae, grouped into 11 tribes.
Merinus is a genus of darkling beetles in the family Tenebrionidae. There is at least one described species in Merinus, M. laevis.
Oxurina is a subtribe of darkling beetles in the family Tenebrionidae. There are about 8 genera and more than 50 described species in Oxurina, found in southern and central Africa.
Phanerotomeina is a subtribe of darkling beetles in the family Tenebrionidae. There are about 5 genera and more than 150 described species in Phanerotomeina, found mainly in the southern part of the Afrotropics. Only two species were described north of the equator.
Sepidiina is a subtribe of darkling beetles in the family Tenebrionidae. There are about 8 genera and more than 110 described species in Sepidiina, found widely distributed in the Mediterranean area and Sub-Saharan Africa. Most species were described from the Horn of Africa.
Trachynotina is a subtribe of darkling beetles in the family Tenebrionidae. There are about 10 genera and more than 170 described species in Trachynotina, found in southern Africa. Although Sepidiini species attract the attention of enthusiasts due to their outstanding morphology and behaviour, the group lacks comprehensive revisions at all taxonomic levels.
Blaptinae is a subfamily of darkling beetles in the family Tenebrionidae. There are around 300 genera in Blaptinae, divided into 7 tribes.
Phrenapatinae is a subfamily of darkling beetles in the family Tenebrionidae. There are more than 20 genera in Phrenapatinae, grouped into 3 tribes.
Adelostomini is a tribe of darkling beetles in the subfamily Pimeliinae of the family Tenebrionidae. There are more than 30 genera in Adelostomini, found primarily in tropical Africa.
Adesmiini is a tribe of darkling beetles in the subfamily Pimeliinae of the family Tenebrionidae. There are about 11 genera in Adesmiini, found primarily in tropical Africa.
Akidini is a tribe of darkling beetles in the subfamily Pimeliinae in the family Tenebrionidae. There are about 5 genera in the tribe Akidini, species of which are found in the Palearctic.
Cryptochilini is a tribe of darkling beetles in the subfamily Pimeliinae of the family Tenebrionidae. There are about 11 genera in Cryptochilini, found in tropical Africa.
Erodiini is a tribe of darkling beetles in the subfamily Pimeliinae of the family Tenebrionidae. There are more than 30 genera in Erodiini.
Evaniosomini is a tribe of darkling beetles in the subfamily Pimeliinae of the family Tenebrionidae. There are about eight genera in Evaniosomini, found primarily in the Neotropics.
Lachnogyini is a tribe of darkling beetles in the subfamily Pimeliinae of the family Tenebrionidae. There are at least three genera in Lachnogyini.
Praociini is a tribe of darkling beetles in the subfamily Pimeliinae of the family Tenebrionidae. There are about 15 genera in Praociini, found in the Neotropics.
Zolodininae is a subfamily of darkling beetles in the family Tenebrionidae. There are at least three genera in Zolodininae.
Pedinini is a tribe of darkling beetles in the family Tenebrionidae. There are about 19 genera in Pedinini.
