I Stand is the third studio album by American singer-songwriter Idina Menzel and was released on January 29, 2008. The album was produced by Glen Ballard, who co-wrote most of the songs with Menzel.
The first single, a dance pop version of Defying Gravity , was released in March 2007, even though the track was only included on the UK and iTunes editions of the album. An EP, also titled Defying Gravity, was released two months later, featuring five different remixes of the track. Another version, featuring five DJ versions, was also released. The song Brave was released as the second single in November 2007.
The single Gorgeous was released in December 2007, alongside an EP featuring five remixes of the song. Each remix was edited down for the EP but could be purchased full-length as a single. Three additional remixes of the song were released on a new EP in January 2008, again also all available in longer, single forms. Also, in August 2008, Menzel released the EP Acoustic. The EP features acoustic versions of I Stand, Brave, Gorgeous and Better to Have Loved.
In April 2010, Idina released the EP Idina Menzel, which features album versions of I Stand, Gorgeous and Brave as well as Embraceable You, Defying Gravity, and No Day But Today which were recorded live on her tour.
To promote the album, Menzel embarked on the I Stand tour on April 1, 2008, in New Brunswick, NJ. Her Concert at Rose Hall at Lincoln Center was filmed for a PBS special on the show Soundstage. The tour ran for four sold out legs before ending on March 29, 2009. She performed a total of 50 concerts on the tour.
A music video for "I Stand" was released on her official YouTube channel on August 15, 2008. A music video for "Brave" was also released on the channel and on iTunes. [1]

The album debuted at #58 in the Billboard 200 making it Menzel's first album to debut on this chart. The album also peaked at #54 on the UK Albums Chart. The single "Gorgeous" reached #3 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Songs chart for the chart week of March 15, 2008, [2] and "Brave" charted at #19 on the Adult Contemporary chart. [3]
As of March 2014, the album has sold 80,000 copies in the United States. [4]

Idina Kim Menzel is an American actress and singer. Particularly known for her work in musicals on Broadway – and for having achieved mainstream success across stage, film, and music – Menzel has been nicknamed the "Queen of Broadway" in honor of her achievements. Her accolades include an American Music Award, a Billboard Music Award, a Disney Legends Award, and a Tony Award, as well as nominations for three Drama League Awards and four Drama Desk Awards. In 2019, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contributions to live theatre.
"Love Hangover" is a song by the Motown singer Diana Ross, recorded in 1975 and released as a single on March 16, 1976. It rose to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot-Selling Soul Singles. It also hit number one on the Record World disco charts. * The original single peaked just 3 months before the first publication of Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart, yet, in an ironic twist of fate, a remixed version by Eric Kupper, known as "Love Hangover 2020", was the last song to hit number one on Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart in March 2020 before the chart was suspended.
"Seasons of Love" is a song from the 1996 Broadway musical Rent, written and composed by Jonathan Larson. The song starts with an ostinato piano motif, which provides the harmonic framework for the cast to sing "Five hundred twenty-five thousand, six hundred minutes". The main instruments used throughout the song are piano, vocals, guitar, organ, bass and drums.
"Defying Gravity" is the signature song from the musical Wicked, composed by Stephen Schwartz, originally recorded by Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth on November 10, 2003, and released on December 16, 2003. It is mostly a solo sung by the main character of the show, Elphaba, with two small duets at the beginning and in the middle of the song between Elphaba and her friend Glinda, and a chorus part at the end in which the citizens of Oz sing.
"Take Me or Leave Me" is a song from the musical Rent, written by American composer Jonathan Larson. In the original 1996 Broadway production, the song was performed by Idina Menzel as Maureen and Fredi Walker as Joanne.
"Don't Stop the Music" is a song recorded by Barbadian singer Rihanna for her third studio album, Good Girl Gone Bad (2007). It was released worldwide on September 7, 2007, as the album's fourth single. The song was written by Tawanna Dabney and its producers StarGate. Michael Jackson also received a songwriting credit for the sampling of the line "Mama-say, mama-sa, ma-ma-koosa" from Jackson's 1983 single "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'". Wicked is a cast recording containing the majority of the songs from the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Wicked, with music and lyrics by composer Stephen Schwartz and a book by writer Winnie Holzman. Released on December 16, 2003 by Decca Broadway both in physical and digital releases. The former contains a foreword and a short synopsis, provided by Gregory Maguire, who wrote the 1995 novel on which the musical is based, in addition to lyrics to those songs included.
"Sing" is a song recorded by Scottish singer Annie Lennox for her fourth solo studio album, Songs of Mass Destruction (2007). It was released as the second single from the album on 1 December 2007 by RCA Records. Lennox was inspired to write the track after seeing South African activist Zackie Achmat at Nelson Mandela's 46664 HIV/AIDS concert. She wanted the track to be a source of empowerment for people without a voice of their own. "What I Cannot Change" is a song written by Darrell Brown, and co-written and recorded by American country artist LeAnn Rimes. The song was released to country radio in August 2008 as the third and final single from her ninth studio album, Family (2007). The song was later supported by a set of dance remixes, released in November 2008. When the song reached number one on the Dance Club Songs chart, Rimes became the first country artist to attain a number one single on both that chart and the Hot Country Songs chart.
"Dust in Gravity is a song by Canadian ambient pop band Delerium featuring vocals by Canadian/Jamaican singer Kreesha Turner. It's the first and only single of their remix album "Remixed: The Definitive Collection". The song premiered on Delerium's official SoundCloud channel on November 9, 2009. The iTunes single was released later in the month, but the track was not officially sent to radio until March 2, 2010, on the same day as the iTunes remix EP was released.
"Let It Go" is a song from Disney's 2013 computer-animated feature film Frozen, whose music and lyrics were composed by husband-and-wife songwriting team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. The song was performed in its original show-tune version in the film by American actress and singer Idina Menzel in her vocal role as Queen Elsa. It was later released as a single, being promoted to adult contemporary radio by Walt Disney Records in January 2014. Anderson-Lopez and Lopez also composed a simplified pop version which was performed by actress and singer Demi Lovato over the start of the film's closing credits. Disney's music division planned to release Lovato's version of the song before Menzel's, as they did not consider Menzel's version a traditional pop song. A music video was released separately for Lovato's version.

Idina Menzel: Live at Radio City was a concert by American singer-songwriter and actress Idina Menzel at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, New York on June 16, 2014. In the wake of the success of Disney's popular animated film Frozen (2013), in which Menzel starred as Elsa, Menzel announced in April 2014 that she will be headlining a one-night-only concert at Radio City Music Hall on her break from her eight shows a week.
