Ian Kajubu Rukunya (born 10 June 1988) is a Ugandan squash player. [1] He has represented Uganda at the Commonwealth Games in 2010, 2014 and 2018. [2] [3] His career-high PSA singles ranking was World No. 510, which he achieved in February 2019.

Background and education

Kajubu grew with his parents, Simon Kajubu Rukunya and Milly Nyakahyma and he was the first born child in the Family. He was born on 12 June 1988 in Lubaga Hospital, Kampala the capital and largest city of Uganda. He studied at Froebel primary school in Bukoto, And he was admitted to Old Kampala for his O'level and A' level. Then he joined Makerere University where he graduated with Bachelor's degree in information Technology. [4]

Career

He is a head of information Technology at Alam group of Companies and worship leader at Church in Najeera. He has represented Uganda international notably at the 2010 games in Delhi City-India, 2014 Glasgow in Scotland and 2018 Gold Coast in Australia. He performed well at international events. [4]

He played at Famed prince Grand Prix Championship in Johannesburg city of South Africa. And also the 2022 Commonwealth games Birmingham city-United Kingdom. He was part of the team Uganda at the games hosted by India in Delhi City, 2010.

Awards

He won most juniors championships. he also won a domestic competitions and those beyond the boundaries of Uganda. He outperformed in the Castle lite Championship, Primary General Open, Kabaka cup and Kabira invitational. He won the Parkland Open, Nakuru and Mombasa both in Kenya and Uhuru Open in Tanzania. [4]
