Idly Kadai (transl. Idli Shop) is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language drama film written, directed and co-produced by Dhanush under Wunderbar Films, together with the newly-created production house Dawn Pictures. The film stars Dhanush, Nithya Menen and Shalini Pandey.

The film was officially announced in September 2024 under the tentative titles D52 and DD4, as it is Dhanush's 52nd and fourth film as a lead actor and director respectively, and the official title was announced a few days later. Principal photography began the same month. The film has music composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, cinematography handled by Kiran Koushik and editing by Prasanna GK.

Idly Kadai is scheduled to be released in theatres worldwide on 10 April 2025.

Development

On 17 September 2024, the then newly established production house Dawn Pictures, headed by Aakash Baskaran, officially announced through their social media pages their maiden production project. [3] Tentatively titled D52 and DD4, it would be directed and starred by Dhanush, in his fourth directorial venture. [4] [5] Dhanush would also co-produce the project under Wunderbar Films. The film's official title, Idly Kadai, was announced on 19 September 2024. [6] The technical crew includes composer G. V. Prakash Kumar, editor Prasanna GK, cinematographer Kiran Koushik, production designer Jacki, costume designer Kavya Sriram and choreographer Baba Bhaskar. [7] [8]

Filming

Principal photography commenced with the first schedule on 16 September 2024 at the villages of Theni district in Tamil Nadu. [9]

Music

The music and background score is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, in his ninth collaboration with Dhanush. [6]

Velaiilla Pattadhari 2 is a 2017 Indian Tamil action comedy film directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth. It is a sequel to the 2014 film Velaiilla Pattadhari and has Dhanush, Amala Paul, Vivek, Hrishikesh, Saranya Ponvannan, and Samuthirakani reprising their roles, while Kajol plays an antagonistic role, marking her return to Tamil cinema after 20 years, with her last film being Minsara Kanavu (1997). Ritu Varma was recast as Anita, earlier played by Surbhi, which marks her debut in Tamil cinema. Some of Dhanush's scenes were partially reshot in Telugu. Its music was composed by Sean Roldan.

Thiruchitrambalam is a 2022 Indian Tamil-language romantic comedy drama film written and directed by Mithran R. Jawahar and produced by Sun Pictures. The film stars Dhanush in the title role with Nithya Menen, Bharathiraja, Prakash Raj, Raashii Khanna and Priya Bhavani Shankar in pivotal roles. In the film, Thiruchitrambalam is a delivery man who lives with his father and grandfather blames the former for the loss of his mother and sister and is not on good terms with the latter. Meanwhile, his love life is not so successful.

Thiruchitrambalam is the soundtrack album to the 2022 film of the same name directed by Mithran R. Jawahar and produced by Sun Pictures. Starring Dhanush, Nithya Menen, Raashii Khanna, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Bharathiraja and Prakash Raj, the film's musical score is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, and featured five songs, with four of them were released as singles prior to the album and film release, and the fifth track was later unveiled as a bonus song from the film. One of the songs in the film were written by Vivek, while Dhanush wrote the remainder of it and also sung for three tracks. Anirudh and composer Santhosh Narayanan recorded one song each for the album.

Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language coming-of-age romantic comedy film co-written, directed, and produced by Dhanush, jointly with Kasthuri Raja and Vijayalakshmi Kasthuri, under Wunderbar Films and RK Productions (P) Ltd. It stars an ensemble cast of Pavish, Anikha Surendran, Priya Prakash Varrier, Mathew Thomas, Venkatesh Menon, Rabiya Khatoon, and Ramya Ranganathan.
