Idly Kadai (transl. Idli Shop) is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language film written, directed and co-produced by Dhanush under Wunderbar Films, together with the newly-created production house Dawn Pictures. The film stars Dhanush.

The film was officially announced in September 2024 under the tentative titles D52 and DD4, as it is Dhanush's 52nd and fourth film as a lead actor and director respectively, and the official title was announced a few days later. Principal photography began the same month. The film has music composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, cinematography handled by Kiran Koushik and editing by Prasanna GK.

Development

On 17 September 2024, the then newly established production house Dawn Pictures, headed by Aakash Baskaran, officially announced through their social media pages that their maiden production project. [1] Tentatively titled D52 and DD4, it would be directed and starred by Dhanush, in his fourth directorial venture. [2] [3] Dhanush would also co-produce the project under Wunderbar Films. The film's official title, Idly Kadai, was announced on 19 September 2024. [4] The technical crew includes composer G. V. Prakash Kumar, editor Prasanna GK, cinematographer Kiran Koushik, production designer Jacki, costume designer Kavya Sriram and choreographer Baba Bhaskar. [5] [6]

Filming

Principal photography commenced with the first schedule on 16 September 2024 at the villages of Theni district in Tamil Nadu. [7]

Music

The music and background score is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, in his ninth collaboration with Dhanush after Polladhavan (2007), Aadukalam (2011), Mayakkam Enna (2011), Asuran (2019), Maaran (2022), Vaathi (2023), Captain Miller (2024) and Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam (2024). [4]

Vada Chennai is the soundtrack album for the 2018 action crime film of the same name directed by Vetrimaaran, starring Dhanush in the lead role. The film featured music composed by Santhosh Narayanan in his maiden collaboration with Vetrimaaran. Vada Chennai also marks the 25th film of Narayanan as a composer in his career. The album in its entirety was released on 23 September 2018 to positive response from critics and audiences. At the 12th Ananda Vikatan Cinema Awards held in Chennai, Santhosh received an award for Best Music Director also for his work in Kaala and Pariyerum Perumal.

Thiruchitrambalam is a 2022 Indian Tamil-language romantic comedy drama film written and directed by Mithran R. Jawahar and produced by Sun Pictures. The film stars Dhanush in the title role with Nithya Menen, Bharathiraja, Prakash Raj, Raashii Khanna and Priya Bhavani Shankar in pivotal roles. In the film, Thiruchitrambalam is a delivery man who lives with his father and grandfather blames the former for the loss of his mother and sister and is not on good terms with the latter. In the film, a fast-food hotel owner in North Chennai struggles to protect his family when they inadvertently get muddled in a war between two rival gangs resulting in unforeseen circumstances.

Veera Dheera Sooran: Part 2 is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language action thriller film written and directed by S. U. Arun Kumar. It is produced by Riya Shibu under HR Pictures. The film stars Vikram in the titular role, alongside S. J. Suryah, Dushara Vijayan, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Siddique. The sequel to Veera Dheera Sooran: Part 1, its predecessor has yet to begin production.
