Shalini Pandey (born 23 September 1993) is an Indian actress who works in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi films. [1] She made her acting debut in the Telugu film Arjun Reddy (2017), [2] and has since acted in the Tamil film 100% Kadhal (2019), the Telugu films Mahanati (2018) and 118 (2019), and the Hindi films Jayeshbhai Jordaar (2022) and Maharaj (2024).

Early life

Pandey was born on 23 September 1993 in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Before making her acting debut, Pandey worked as a theatre artist in Jabalpur. [3] [4]

Career

Breakthrough (2017–2019)

Pandey made her screen debut with the Telugu film Arjun Reddy in 2017, where she played a medical student opposite Vijay Deverakonda. [5] [2] A major commercial success, the film earned her the SIIMA Award for Best Female Debut – Telugu nomination. [6] Hemanth Kumar of Firstpost noted, "Shalini as Preethi, is good and it’s the vulnerability that she encapsulates that makes the love story so intense." While, Murali Krishna CH from Cinema Express stated that she delivered a "measured performance" with the right amount of subtlety. [7] [8]

In her first film of 2018, Pandey made her Hindi film debut with a cameo appearance in Meri Nimmo . [9] The same year, she played Savitri's friend in the Telugu film Mahanati , a major box office success. [10] [11]

Pandey had five film releases in 2019. She first played Sowcar Janaki in the Telugu film NTR: Kathanayakudu . [12] She then played the lead in the Telugu film 118 , opposite Nandamuri Kalyan Ram. [13] The film was a commercial success. Neeshita Nyayapati of Times of India found her performance to be "okay" but praised her chemistry with Kalyan Ram. [14] Later the year, Pandey made her Tamil film debut with 100% Kadhal , playing a college student opposite G. V. Prakash Kumar, a box office failure. [15] In her next Tamil film, she played the lead opposite Jiiva in Gorilla . [16] In her final film of the year, she played a college student opposite Raj Tarun in the Telugu film Iddari Lokam Okate , a box office average. [17]

Career expansion (2020–present)

Pandey made her full fledged Hindi film debut in 2020, with Bamfaad . She played a Hindu girl in love with a Muslim boy, opposite Aditya Rawal. [18] [19] Anna MM Vetticad found her to be "efficient" but added that she lacks "spark". [20] Saibal Chatterjee opined that Pandey conveys with a degree of conviction. [21] That year, she also played a possessive girl in the Telugu film Nishabdham . [22] Sowmya Rajendran of The News Minute noted, "Shalini is a surprise as the possessive Sonali. She's meant to be annoying yet likable. A tough ask, but Shalini pulls it off." [23]

Pandey portrayed a Gujarati housewife and mother opposite Ranveer Singh in the Hindi film, Jayeshbhai Jordaar , that released in 2022 and was a box office failure. [24] [25] Sukanya Verma stated that she doesn't leave any impact. [26] Post a two year hiatus, Pandey played the lead opposite Junaid Khan in the Hindi film Maharaj . [27] Pratikshya Mishra of The Quint opined that she "pulls her weight" in a short but important role. [28] Sana Farzeen of India Today noted that in her brief role, she tugs at your heartstrings. [29]

Pandey was placed in The Indian Express and 123telugu , "Top Actresses" list of 2017. [30] [31] In the same year, she was also placed 19th in Hyderabad Times Most Desirable Women List. [32]

It stars Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey while Rahul Ramakrishna, Jia Sharma, Sanjay Swaroop, Gopinath Bhat, Kamal Kamaraju and Kanchana appear in supporting roles. The film tells the story of Arjun Reddy Deshmukh (Deverakonda), a wealthy high-functioning alcoholic surgeon with anger management problems. <i>Mahanati</i> 2018 film directed by Nag Ashwin

Mahanati is a 2018 Indian Telugu-language biographical drama film based on the life of actress Savitri. It is written and directed by Nag Ashwin, and produced by Priyanka Dutt under Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinema. The film features Keerthy Suresh as Savitri while Dulquer Salmaan plays Savitri's husband Gemini Ganesan. The film also stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Vijay Deverakonda, along with Rajendra Prasad, Prakash Raj, and Bhanupriya who appear in supporting roles. Naga Chaitanya and Mohan Babu, among others, play guest appearances. The plot follows Savitri's life, depicting her turbulent rise to prominence, marriage with Ganesan, and subsequent fall from grace, which is viewed from the perspective of a journalist and a photographer, played by Samantha and Deverakonda respectively.

<i>Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy</i> 2019 film by Surender Reddy

Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy is a 2019 Indian Telugu-language epic historical action film directed by Surender Reddy and produced by Ram Charan under the Konidela Production Company banner. Reddy scripted the film based on an original story given by Paruchuri brothers. A work of fiction, the film is inspired by the life of Indian independence activist Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy from the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh. The film stars Chiranjeevi in the title character, with an ensemble cast including Sudeepa, Vijay Sethupathi, Ravi Kishan, Jagapathi Babu, Nayanthara and Tamannaah Bhatia. Amitabh Bachchan and Anushka Shetty make guest appearances. Pawan Kalyan, Kamal Haasan, and Mohanlal gave narration in the film to their respective languages. The film tells the story of Narasimha Reddy in his fight against the rule of the British East India Company.

Krishnarjuna Yudham is a 2018 Indian Telugu-language action comedy film written and directed by Merlapaka Gandhi and produced by Sahu Garapati & Harish Peddi under Shine Screens banner. The film stars Nani, Anupama Parameswaran, Rukshar Dhillon in lead roles. Nani played a dual role for the third time after Janda Pai Kapiraju & Gentleman. Part of the film was shot in Prague, Czech Republic. The film opened worldwide on 12 April 2018 to mixed reviews, with praise for Nani's acting but criticism of the screenplay, lag in second half, its farfetchedness and its formulaic story.

<i>Kirrak Party</i> 2018 Indian film

Kirrak Party is a 2018 Indian Telugu-language campus romantic comedy film directed by Sharan Koppisetty and produced by Ramabrahmam Sunkara and Abhishek Agarwal, under AK Entertainments and Abhishek Agarwal Arts. The film is the remake of 2016 Kannada film Kirik Party which was directed by Rishab Shetty. The film features Nikhil Siddharth in the lead role along with Simran Pareenja, making her debut and Samyuktha Hegde reprising her role from the Kannada version.

<i>Dear Comrade</i> 2019 Indian Telugu-language film

Dear Comrade is a 2019 Indian Telugu-language romantic action drama film written and directed by Bharat Kamma. It is produced by Mythri Movie Makers and Big Ben Cinemas. The film stars Vijay Deverakonda, Rashmika Mandanna and Shruti Ramachandran. Principal photography for the film commenced in August 2018. The film was theatrically released on 26 July 2019 in Telugu along with dubbed versions in Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. Upon release, the film received mixed reviews from critics in Telugu and mostly negative reviews in Tamil.

Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, also known by the initialism AVPL, is a 2020 Indian Telugu-language action drama film written and directed by Trivikram Srinivas. It was produced by Allu Aravind and S. Radha Krishna under their banners Geetha Arts and Haarika & Hassine Creations, respectively. V is a 2020 Indian Telugu-language action thriller film directed by Mohana Krishna Indraganti and produced by Dil Raju under Sri Venkateswara Creations. <i>Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo</i> (soundtrack) 2020 soundtrack album by Thaman S

Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo is the soundtrack album composed by Thaman S for the 2020 Telugu film of the same name starring Allu Arjun and Pooja Hegde in lead roles, directed by Trivikram Srinivas, the film marks Thaman's second collaboration with Trivikram after Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava (2018) and third collaboration with Allu Arjun after Race Gurram (2014) and Sarrainodu (2016). The album consists of six songs with Sirivennela Sitaramasastri, Kasarla Shyam, Krishna Chaitanya, Ramajogayya Sastry, Kalyan Chakravarthy and Vijay Kumar Bhalla penning the lyrics. The soundtrack album released digitally on 6 January 2020 on the Aditya Music label. It is the first Indian feature film soundtrack to have more than 1 billion-views on YouTube. On YouTube's Top 10 Indian Music Videos, "Butta Bomma" and "Ramuloo Ramulaa" became the only South Indian songs that have been listed in 2020.

<i>Arjun Reddy</i> (soundtrack) 2017 soundtrack album by Radhan

Arjun Reddy is the soundtrack to the 2017 film of the same name directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. The album featured seven songs composed by Radhan with lyrics penned by Ananta Sriram, Rambabu Gosala, Shreshta and Mandela Pedaswamy. The album was released on 21 August 2017 through Aditya Music and preceded with four singles. Although most of the song were composed by Radhan, Shrestha who penned lyrics for "Madhurame" and "Gundelona"; composed the latter's tune that lacked instrumental support.
