Indonesians in Pakistan are a small expatriate community.

Community

The Indonesian community in Pakistan comprises diplomats and consular staff, migrants and their families, employees working for multinational corporations, international students, tourists and Indonesian spouses married to Pakistanis. [1] There are a few hundred Indonesian students pursuing education in various Pakistani universities and institutes. [2] A large number of the Indonesian pupils are religious students receiving Islamic education from madrasas or Islamic universities. [3]

Organisations

Indonesia has an embassy in Islamabad and a consulate-general in Karachi. Both diplomatic missions provide consular services to Indonesian citizens in Pakistan. [1]

Pakistan-Indonesia relations are special and founded on common mutual religious outlook. Indonesia is the world's most populous Muslim- majority country, whereas Pakistan is the world's second most populous Muslim-majority country. Both countries are members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and Developing 8 Countries. Pakistan has an embassy in Jakarta, whereas Indonesia has an embassy in Islamabad, and a Consulate General in Karachi. Indonesians have a mixed view on Pakistan according to a 2014 BBC World Service Poll which showed that 40% of Indonesians view Pakistan's influence positively, with 31% expressing a negative view.

The embassy in Islamabad is one the largest U.S. embassies in the world, in terms of personnel, and houses a chancery and complex of office buildings. The embassy complex also houses a contingent of military officials and intelligence personnel in addition to diplomatic and non-diplomatic staff. U.S. Department of State also maintains Consulates in Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar.

The Consulate General of the United States in Karachi is located in the province of Sindh in Pakistan and represents the interests of the United States government in Karachi, Pakistan and nearby surrounding areas. It is the United States' largest Consulate General, and is larger, in terms of both personnel and facilities, than many U.S. Embassies. Technically a part of Mission Pakistan, and reporting through the Embassy of the United States in Islamabad.

The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates, Islamabad is a diplomatic mission of the United Arab Emirates in Islamabad, Pakistan. It is located inside the Diplomatic Enclave in Islamabad. The present UAE ambassador to Pakistan is Essa Abdulla Al Basha Al Noaimi. He assumed his duties on 26 September 2011. The UAE also has a Consulate-General in Karachi.

Consulate General of the United States, Peshawar

The Consulate General of the United States is a diplomatic mission of the United States in Peshawar, Pakistan. It operates under the U.S. embassy in Islamabad and serves U.S. consular interests in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region. The current consul-general is William Martin, appointed in 2012.

The Embassy of Bahrain in Islamabad is the diplomatic mission of Bahrain to Pakistan. It is located at House No. 12, Street 2 in Sector F-6/3, Islamabad. Bahrain also has a consulate-general in Karachi.
