The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) is a statutory board of the Singapore government, under the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI).

History

Following the passing of the Info-communications Media Development Authority Bill in Parliament on 16 August 2016, IMDA was launched on 30 September 2016. This was preceded by the restructuring of the Info-communications Development Authority (IDA) and the Media Development Authority (MDA). [1] [2]

Key Functions

In efforts to prepare Singapore for the digital economy, IMDA provides numerous programmes, policies and grants that cater to industries and communities. IMDA works with industry leaders to keep regulator capabilities on par with an evolving and a converging infocomm media sector as well as drive innovation to prepare Singapore for the digital economy. Additionally, IMDA also safeguards consumer interests through the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) which is now part of the IMDA. [4] [5]

Established on April 1, 2007, the Interactive & Digital Media Centre, is an organization in Singapore Polytechnic that seeks to help Singapore enterprises to advance their use of Interactive & Digital Media (IDM). Launched in 2007, the vision behind IDMC@SP was to be a centre of excellence for R&D work in the areas of Interactive & Digital Media. IDM projects are submitted to IDM Programme Office and IDA, and MOE for R&D funding.

KooBits designs and builds digital products for children and educators. KooBits was founded in 2007 by current CEO Stanley Han, with Professor Sam Ge Shuzhi and Dr. Chen Xiangdong. The trio saw opportunity in the rapid growth of the ebook industry, and decided to focus on creating software for interactive enhanced ebooks. Currently KooBits is focused on education technology for primary mathematics learning.

Singapore Institute of Technology Fifth autonomous university to be established in Singapore

The Singapore Institute of Technology is the fifth autonomous university in Singapore. Established in May 2009, SIT is Singapore's first university of applied learning.

Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (Egypt) Egypt

The Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) is the government body responsible for information and communications technology (ICT) issues in the Arab Republic of Egypt. Established in 1999, MCIT is responsible for the planning, implementation and operation of government ICT plans and strategies. MCIT is led by the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, who is nominated by the Prime Minister and is a member of the cabinet. The current ICT Minister is Amr Talaat who assumed the position on 14 June 2018. MCIT is headquartered in Smart Village Egypt, in 6th of October, Giza Governorate, in the Cairo metropolitan area.

IDA International was a wholly owned privatised subsidiary of the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore. IDA International's operations ceased by 31 March 2016 due to a strategic realignment by IDA.

European Digital SME Alliance community of small and medium ICT enterprises

European DIGITAL SME Alliance is a community of small and medium ICT enterprises (SMEs). Its members are national sectorial digital SME associations in 30 countries and regions in the EU and neighboring countries, all together it associates more than 20,000 SMEs. DIGITAL SME was established in 2007 to represent the voice of ICT SMEs and their interests in the European institutions and other international organisations. DIGITAL SME is the first European association of the ICT sector exclusively. The current president is Oliver Grün.

Government Technology Agency

The Government Technology Agency is a statutory board of the Singapore government, under the Prime Minister's Office (Singapore) (PMO). It was restructured from the former entity Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) in 2016, and officially legislated in Parliament on 18 August 2016.
