The International Sports Hall of Fame (ISHOF) is a section 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 2012 by Dr. Robert M. Goldman to honor exceptional athletes and sporting figures for their accomplishments and dedication to furthering the fields of sports and physical culture. [1]

Contents

The inductees are bestowed with their own official ISHOF emblem, a gold lapel pin, a gold medallion, a hand crafted gold medal [2] and the inclusion into the H.J. Lutcher Stark Center for Physical Culture and Sports which is an archive and museum dedicated to the study and preservation of the world of physical culture. [3]

Nominations

With its mission being 'inspiring future generations of athletes by honoring the sports heroes of today', [4] potential induction candidates from worldwide are picked and shortlisted by a highly diversified and respected, twenty-member 'Global Advisory Board' chaired by the president Dr. Robert M. Goldman and vice president Fairfax Hackley. The winners are selected based on their past and present contributions to the sports world and their charitable works mentoring youth and inspiring future generations of athletes with a "giving back" mindset.

Induction ceremonies

The Hall of Fame Induction ceremonies are held annually at the Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival, in the first weekend of March, hosting 200,000 attendees and over 22,000 competing athletes in over 80 sports. [5] Each year, five to seven individuals are selected to be inducted. [6] [7] [8]

As of 2023, 68 individuals have been inducted to the International Sports Hall of Fame. [9]

Roy "Reg" Park was an English bodybuilder, businessman, and actor. His first title was Mr. Britain in 1949. He then won Mr. Universe in 1951, 1958, and 1965. He went on to star in five films, all of which featured him playing Hercules. Later in life, he received renewed interest for being the first inspiration to Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Jason Isaac Cutler known professionally as Jay Cutler is an American retired professional bodybuilder. An IFBB Pro League bodybuilder, Cutler is a four-time Mr. Olympia winner, having won in 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2010; and a six-time runner-up, the most in history. He also won consecutive Arnold Classic titles in 2002, 2003, and 2004. In 2021, he was inducted into the International Sports Hall of Fame.

Tibor Benedek was a Hungarian professional water polo player and coach, widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. He played on the gold medal squads at the 2000 Summer Olympics, 2004 Summer Olympics and 2008 Summer Olympics. Benedek also competed at the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics, where the Hungarian team placed 6th and 4th, respectively.

Alliance is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu association. Alliance was founded by Romero "Jacare" Cavalcanti and his students: Fabio Gurgel, Alexandre Paiva, and Fernando Gurgel. Lutcher Stark Center for Physical Culture and Sports, co-editor of Iron Game History: The Journal of Physical Culture, and creator and event director of the Arnold Strongman Classic.

Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson is an Icelandic professional strongman who is widely regarded as one of the greatest strength athletes of all time. He is the first and only person to have won the Arnold Strongman Classic, the Europe's Strongest Man, and the World's Strongest Man competitions in the same calendar year and holds numerous Strongman titles from multiple strength federations, including multiple world records. With 30 international competition wins, he is the third most decorated strongman in history, behind Lithuania's Žydrūnas Savickas and Poland's Mariusz Pudzianowski, and in terms of pure brute strength, many strength analysts and strongman experts regard Hafþór as "the strongest man to have ever lived".

MTV Rock N' Jock is a television series on MTV featuring actors, musicians, and other entertainers playing sports with professional athletes. The original episode was called The MTV Rock N' Jock Diamond Derby, and was changed to MTV's Rock N' Jock Softball Challenge, in year 2. The concept expanded to include basketball in 1991, football in 1997 and bowling in 1999 The game was an annual feature for many years on MTV.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Dennis Tinerino</span> American bodybuilder.

Dennis Tinerino was an American bodybuilder, most prominent in the late 1960s and 1970s. He won the Mr. Universe title four times in 1968, 1975, 1980 and 1981 and Mr. World in 1971 in the tall man's category, and Mr. America in 1978. After becoming involved in a life of crime, running one of the biggest escort services in California, he became an international evangelist. The 1983 edition of The Gold's Gym book of bodybuilding cited him as "one of the most successful bodybuilders of the past decade or two". He is an inductee of the National Fitness Hall of Fame, IFBB Hall of Fame and National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame.

Robert M. Goldman is an American physician, author, martial artist, sports and physical culture advocate, teacher, historian and an expert in sports medicine and anti-aging and regenerative medicine.
