The Ireland national baseball team has been in existence since 1996 and has taken part in several major baseball tournaments and tours. As in many other sports in Ireland, the team represents both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

History

The Ireland national baseball team has participated in the following tournaments:[ citation needed ]

Ireland finished fourth in the 2002 tournament, won a bronze in the 2004 tournament and managed a silver medal in the 2006 tournament, losing to tournament favourites Croatia.

Ireland won the C pool in 2018, advancing to the B pool of competition in 2019. [3] The competition was played at the International Baseball Centre in County Meath.

In 2024, Ireland made the final of the B pool qualifiers, which were again hosted in Ireland, eventually losing to Austria. [4]

The qualification for the 2019 European Baseball Championship started on July 25, 2016, in Ljubljana, Slovenia and Miejska Górka, Poland. The tournament was originally planned for 2018, but was moved back a year to 2019 to serve as a qualification for the 2020 Olympiad.

Six teams qualified for the Olympic softball tournament, including Japan, which, as host nation, qualified automatically. The United States team won the 2018 Women's Softball World Championship to qualify for the Olympics. The remaining four spots were allocated through three qualification tournaments: one spot for a Europe/Africa tournament, one spot for an Asia/Oceania tournament, and two spots for an Americas tournament.

The Ashbourne Baseball Club is Ireland's largest baseball club. It is located in Ashbourne, County Meath, and draws players from the surrounding area, including Dublin. The club was created in 2009 as the Garristown Gruffalos. The club competes in the Irish Baseball League and plays in the International Baseball Centre.

The International Baseball Centre (IBC) is the home field of the Ashbourne Baseball Club and the Irish National Baseball Team. It opened in 2015. It is Ireland's only international standard baseball diamond.

Zachary William Penprase is an American-Israeli former professional baseball infielder. He plays for the Israel National Baseball Team. He played for Team Israel at the 2019 European Baseball Championship. He also played for the team at the Africa/Europe 2020 Olympic Qualification tournament in Italy in September 2019, which Israel won to qualify to play baseball at the 2020 Summer Olympics. He played for Team Israel at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo in the summer of 2021.

The 2019 European Baseball Championship - B-Pool was the second tier of the Confederation of European Baseball men's competition. It featured 14 teams, competing in two groups of 6 and 8 teams in early July 2019. The two group winners, Team Israel and Team Lithuania, faced off in the 2019 European Baseball Playoff Series for the last qualifying spot for the 2019 European Baseball Championship, with Team Israel prevailing.
